Sounds like something I'd like to do as well. Keep us informed on what you decide to do. So are you thinking of a flatbed? Would it be set up with a receiver hitch or fifth-wheel?

I've actually been toying around a little the past week with the idea of building a dual-axle hauler. Since I have several empty chassis sitting around, I could just attach the back half of one onto another....basically like a mini-tractor/trailer. I don't think it would be necessary (or feasible) to round up dually rearends, but with a little tweaking it would almost look like a miniature big-rig, and definitely be something unique. It would be built to handle a two-car fifth-wheel trailer. I'd have to do some checking on what kind of weight I'd be dealing with, but I believe a pair of F250 spring setups would more than handle this adequately.

Keith are going to try and pull this with your SWB truck? that is, IMHO, way to much wieght for a short truck not designed for it.
really, in the back of my mind, I've been thinking the SWB is too small to pull your 442, but it can be done with care.
I'd say at a guess, your looking in the 10.000 lb range on the 2 car hauler. 2 cars, and a large trailer, then the gear to go along with it for rie-downs,ect. then there is the personal and camp gear and family........ it really adds up. just my 2 cents worth

oh heck no! I was thinking about using the '67 F250 CS chassis for this. (You think I'm gonna mess up my purty powder-coated F100 frame? ) I was thinking that after welding on the frame extension with the second axle I'd go ahead and box the frame too, in addition to adding a couple extra crossmembers for strength.

Junkyard jeff, any chance you could find a 7.3 powerstroke from the 80's trucks in a boneyard...might not be too expensive, fuel economy might be worth it.. I know a guy that can get 15 mpg pulling a 20 some odd foot trailer with 2 farmall tractors with his 7.3 powerstroke. btw its a one ton also.

What I was planning on doing is have the frame stretched and have a wedge shape bed or whatever they are called installed and just putting dual wheels on the rear only unless the dually front rotors will work on my axles and title it as a half ton so I can run the usual non com tags for a p/u. I was also thinking of putting a sleeper behind the cab so I will have a place to sleep on long trips or when I go to a car show. Jeff

powerstrokes didn't come out intill 94, the 7.3 been around awhile but may buddies 93 f350 crewcab 4x4 has a 7.3 with a banks kit. moves ok but its not innercooled. at least i think its a 93 i don't remember.

There's a 69 F350 nearby with the long wheebase (159") , I think, with duals and an old welding deck I've had my eye on for a couple of years. I've thinking about a ramp deck and maybe a powerstroke for it. Are the 6.9s (early eighties) any good for something like this?

I have a 1977 F-350 flat bed. Does anybody know if an earlier cab will bolt up to this frame? I have a rust free 72 cab I thought would be a neat swap.
