3 Speed Tranny rebuild.

Post by rjmaas »

I have a RAT-H 3 Speed on the Tree. I'm looking to either rebuild it or swap it.

Is there a good source around for a Rebuild Kit? and it's it fairly straight forward, say compaired to rebuilding a c-4 or c-6..

Second question if it's not, what is a suitable replacement for a RAT-H.. Since I'm having issues sourcing that specific type.

I have a 67 F-100 with a 352.

The old toploader 3 spds are pretty easy to work on. I do the 4 spds all the time. A few good hand tools and it's easy to tear apart/assemble. Never bought any of those "special" ford tools yet!

I would bet that if you contacted Davidkeetoploader.com that David could set you up with all the needed parts. He's out of Texas and I've been dealing with him for a few years now. Really knowledgeable. Check out his webpage.

These old trannys are easy to find, I assume it's the 303. Expect to spend at least a couple hundred on a good rebuild kit and more if there are any dinged gears.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

Most 4 spd kits are $150~ complete. No gears, but everything else including a can of paint.

I'd about guarantee the frt/rear bearings are same as 4 spd. 307 and 209? (from memory?)

BTW...a NICE toploader 4 spd will bolt right in there! Just a bit longer, but much nicer to drive. Or course you have to put floor shifter in...some people don't like that idea. It's a thought

Yea, I bought it for the 3 on the tree, so I'd like to maintain that.. I have an email into David Kee on what my options are, or if there are other sources and such for kits.

Thanks for the info.
