Steve's 71 F-250 4x4 project
Well I just made it home with my new, old truck.
First thing I did was to remove the dash pad - an idea I got from another thread here at FORDification. It was faded and cracked and I like the metal-look better anyway - that is how my 66 looked.
I'm not going to bother trying to fill in the holes. This was an easy and a free fix and I think it makes the interior look a lot better. Here are before pics of the dash.

Are the def holes wide open or do they have a grate over them?
That looks allot better without.

right now they are still wide open. I'm going to take the covers out of the dash, paint them, and use them to cover the holes back up.

Will do. One thing that is interesting is that there are 2 small holes next to each of the defroster vent holes. They were not used for anything as far as I can tell, but I'm thinking I will be able to use those to screw down the grate covers once they are cleaned up.

okay, I pulled the defroster covers out of the padded dash cover, cleaned them up and painted them with rattle-can. Here's a pic of one back in the dash.
While I was at it, I pulled the steering wheel and painted the outer rim. I'm not sure how long it will hold up, but I was getting black smudges over everything whenever it was damp out - the original paint had worn off down to that black stuff.
She goes in tomorrow for new exhaust - flowmaster 50s with 2 1/4 inch pipes. (not bothering with headers)
