1970 1 ton Ford Camper van
Well I know its not a truck but its an old ford 1 ton van from the correct era for the site. My Uncle bought this nearly rust free 1970 1 ton camper van. It has a dana 60, the high compression 302, and a c4. It has a propane powered stove and fridge and has 110V outlets, it has a sink to. Has two bench seats in the back that convert into a bed. I think its a pretty cool old van, Figured I would post it up, its a pretty interesting unit.

Hey Sindelir,
I'm not sure if I have welcomed you to FORDification yet or not...
A big webfooted welcome to ya from the great Pacific North West.
Those '70 SuperVans, can be fixed up pretty cool... They make great campin' rigs.
When I went thru divorce, I lived in a Chevy conversion like it for about 8 months.
Now, I have upgraded to a '68 Ford/Bluebird short bus.
You can click on the blue link below to see the whole project album.
I wanna put a deck on the back of my bus Olde Skool similiar to the one on your van.
click on pic to enlarge
On the deck opposite side of the license plate, I wanna mount a generator large enough to run my 140 amp mig welder.
If I can figure out how to mount license plate lights in the door, Then I wanna mount a propane tank and a jeep can on the other side for generator gas...

Cool stuff, i think we share door handles, the rear lights and the rear reflectors and the front marker lamps on the fenders are te same as our rear markers but done up in orange, infact it was the same part number on a pair i had just in orange/amber.

Re: 1970 1 ton Ford Camper van
Yeah I thought it was a cool van, i have never seen one like this before, I mean I have seen newer ones and the VW buses and what not but I have never seen one in this body style, and the other thing that gets me is its not a half ton, its a 1 ton E300, pretty much all the other camper vans like this are half tons only they are newer. There are actually a fair amount of similarities to this van and my 68 truck, like said above side markers, tail lights, rear end split two piece drive shaft, the rear bumper might be the same as some of the trucks but my truck has the step bumper, the harder I look the more I find that is interchangeable, Ill have to get some pics of the front of the cab inside.
kaptnkaos I like your bus set up, that is actually what i have wanted to do since I was a little kid on the school bus, hell I use to draw plans up using specs from the bus I rode while I was in school. I wanted to gut the back half of it, and cut the rear of the bus off and make the rear a ramp that closes into a door and I wanted to make that half of the bus for my sleds and ATVs for when I go on trips, then i wanted to make the front half of the bus a camper with a fridge stove bed seats and whatnot.

Re: 1970 1 ton Ford Camper van
yeah other people have said the same thing , But today I discovered something not good. I knew it was running rough and I new it needed a tune up with new plugs and wires and new gas but I did a compression test being after I rebuilt the carb it still ran like crap and was missing on two cylinders, well two cylinders have no compression, pretty sure it has two burnt exhaust valves, but oh well its easy to work on and popping the heads off to do a valve job isn't hard.

Re: 1970 1 ton Ford Camper van
Thats a question i have had will they still have compression with dead plugs/wires or even crossed wires. what if the plugs are slightly loose?

Re: 1970 1 ton Ford Camper van
If the spark plug is bad or it has a bad wire that does not effect compression, all that does is not have spark so it wont fire, if a spark plug is loose then yeah you could have a loss of compression if its loose enough to let air seep out. In this case the problem is the exhaust valve is open when its not suppose to be so it loses all its compression.rjewkes wrote:Thats a question i have had will they still have compression with dead plugs/wires or even crossed wires. what if the plugs are slightly loose?

Good info to have. I had the opposite on the 302 that was in my 72 sport custom, it had one collapsed/broken lifter. on the intake side of no.1 cyl.

I always loved the older vans. Welcome to Fordification. I like your truck.
your van looks like one my uncle used to have. He is a free love kinda guy.haha.
I think you are the first on Fordification with a van from that era.

I didnt know they made a high compression 302..? I thought that was the 289 hi-po. What compression ratio is it..?
