Re: 1968 F350 Project
I really like where your going with the trucks, don't see as many big bumps.
The truck on the left and in the center remind me of to of my uncle's work trucks.
He has a '69 F350 Dump, and an '89 F450 Turbo Diesel. They look just like your two trucks there, just different colors.

71 LONG BED wrote:You've done that old Ford well! Keep up the good work. By the way, are you sure the chassis was extened? Ford did make two wheel base lengths. There was a 135" and a 159". The longer ones aren't exactly "rare", but there are definitly fewer of them.
Thanks, As for the Chassis I know that it was. They cut the old frame off behind the cab and welded a long wheel base frame to the front section. Who ever did it did not do to bad of a job they just did not clean it up as much as I would have liked. Oh well another project

Re: 1968 F350 Project
Well I decided to start on the radiator support this afternoon after I did some stuff aroud the house. I started with the grill and then the rest of the bolts. I was hoping to leave the fenders on but that did not work so off they came. Everything came appart super easy except for one bolt on the bottom of the pass side. The cage nut was broken and I had to cut the bolt. I also found a nest?? behind the grill. It was instering there was a bolt but no nut and bottom bushing on the support on the pass side. I dont know if Ford forgot it or what. It all went well till I hit a problem. The new ( used ) support does not have the bracket on it that holds the rad to the support. So I am a little upset about it but I think I have devised a plan. I am going to get a spot weld cutter and cut the spot welds and then bolt the brackets to the new support. Now for the hard part trying to find a spot weld cutter and not have to wait forever. I want the truck back home from my grandparents house. Also I am open to other ideas. Here are some pictures.

From the pictures, your cab mounts appear to be in great shape! I wish I could say the same about mine. My drivers side mount is getting bad......
I have a Blair plug cutter that I use for removing spot welds. They are a little tricky at first, but once you get the hang of them, they cut like butta'.

Re: 1968 F350 Project
Not to much of on update. I have gotten a little distracted and made a run to the junk yard. I did find some goodies to bring home as well. I did get the mounts drilled and painted and partly installed. I decided to go ahead and paint the inner fenders and such while I can get to it so hopefully soon I can get some more pictures and such. Maybe even a few of the new goodies. I hope to work on it some today. With it getting dark early now and working till almost then it makes it a bit more challanging. I have also been hoist shopping for a dump bed and hopefully have something worked out.

Re: 1968 F350 Project
A small update and big kind of too. Anyway I have been working on putting in the new rad support and painting the inter fenders and such while I am there. So No big supprises or anything, Some new paint and color besides dirt and rust hahaa. Also yesterday evening dad and I went to a junk yard that I have gotten a lot of parts for my 54 from. I was hoping to find a 600 dash but no luck with it. However and I am super excited for this is that he does have a Ford Script long wheel base bed that I have been wanting and looking for over a year. And Also a super nice dash pad and a PTO ( Power take off) for the dump bed project. He also had a dump bed that my dad is wanting so it was a good trip. In the pictures to follow is the new paint, and the junk yard finds from last week. I hope to get my truck back together early next week and go get the bed. Thanks

Re: 1968 F350 Project
You're lucky to have a good junk yard down there. There's nothing up here in NY for 40 year old stuff. It all rusted away 10 years ago.

Re: 1968 F350 Project
I now basically have the front end of the truck back together.( It took alot longer to put it back together than to take it apart) I lack 6 bolts and then snug everything up. It seems amazing to see what a little paint and time does. No Pictures as it was raining and I forgot the camera at home. Hopefully soon though. I also managed to drop both a wrench and vice grips down in the cab corner. I will have to fish them out tommrow. Also I hope to go look/ buy a dump hoist this weekend and maybe a bed too.

Re: 1968 F350 Project
Well I hit a small snag. The werid cage nut type things that the hood latch bolt goes into broke. Two of them did. One that was on the old one and the one I took from the fenderwell. I was losing hope but actually found a few NOS ones on ebay. Hopefully they will be here soon.( as they guy is suppost to be out of town till the 30th) Maybe pictures soon too.

Re: 1968 F350 Project
Well still no under hood paint pictures. Maybe a warm day with no snow to fight with. However I do have some new parts for the truck. First I now have a dump hosit. I tryed to buy a bed and hoist off a truck in NC but in the last few seconds it went to high for me. However I did get a wood's brand hoist local to me. I think i am going to have it checked out just to make sure it is all good.(Pics to follow) Also I purchased a f600 cluster off ebay and now 4 tachs in trying to decided about what one to use. ( I am open for imput here) It was also a good truck Christmas. I got some seals and gaskets I wanted for when it gets painted. But I also got a new CD Player( Yah tunes now) and the SS door plates for the stills after it is painted. I guess that is it for progress. No big changes to the truck but I consider parts progress. Haha. Anyway here are my finds.
