"vintage" intakes
Is there a website or does anyone have some info on special intakes particularly for windsors? I think when I get my motor done (very soon) I want to put old speed items on it. But I dont know where to look to find some good stuff.
Thanks for any info!

Re: "vintage" intakes
It's just my opinion, but you'd probably be spending more money for old outdated technology that won't give you the performance of less-expensive modern choices. Personally, I think you'd be much happier leaving the '60s speed parts to the restoration crowd, where they're more interested in correct casting and code numbers than performance, and stick with items that have an additional 40 years worth of revisions and improvements.
However, you can check out this link for some basic info on vintage Ford intakes:

The 221, 255, 260, 289-302 are also considered Windsors as the 351W is...fordman wrote:that 302 intake wont fit on a 351w.
But yeah clarification on which size motor you are working with in the Windsor family is needed as the 351W uses a different/larger intake then the others...
Also, for the 351W there really is no early performance intakes for them...

Re: "vintage" intakes
The Shelby intake is a good intake, the other one no so much.

Re: "vintage" intakes
Very true, I knew from the beginning that I wouldnt be getting the shelby intake just thought It would be cool. But others that wont go for so much would be nice to have as future parts, or to use right now. Im also looking at a couple of valve covers but havnt found anything I like yet. By the way what web sites do you go to?

Re: "vintage" intakes
Provided the rest of the engine can use the air, that Shelby intake will trounce a performer. It is approximately equal to a Weiand stealth (Notice an similarities in design?) or Ederbrock Performer RPM. Blue thunder makes a very fine reproduction, although it is not inexpensive.

Re: "vintage" intakes
I was looking into the same thing not too long ago for my 302. I found with the old intakes, they are expensive, & all the ones I looked at had something wrong with them (ebay). Broken tabs, stripped threads, helicoils etc.
Right now im looking into the Weiand manifolds. They almost look stock, & I bet if you painted or powdercoated one, folks wouldnt know the difference. On the MoPar site im on, guys that are making the "sleeper" motors will get an aftermarket manifold & use a 120 grit sanding wheel & carefully grind off all the aftermarket markings. Brand, model # , etc. Then they hit it with some 400 grit to smooth it up, paint it & you would never know it wasnt factory equipment.
Im not sure on how you plan to dress your engine, but here are some cool factory looking valve covers. If your into chrome that is.

Re: "vintage" intakes
yeah I'd shave the wieght of the stock/old aftermarket performance intakes and get the lower weight aluminum ones, and even at that I'd get a used 302 EFI setup lock stock and barrell and build it for the extra milaege and mod the trans crossmember to fit the early AOD Tranny.
that would be different and still be a 302. Wouldn't it shock any local/state smog inspector that your old ford got 15-20 maybe 22 mpgs and polluted less then they think it should?
