Finally mid gas tank pulled

Post by zakt »

Finally got the mid gas tank pulled, had to so now I can get to the bed bolt that is spinning :( Looks like Im going to weld the head to the bed on top and then put the impact on it  (not the bed I will be using which helps, not that I couldnt grind the weld off later) Not sure if I will put the mid tank back in... well not the exact one as I will be going EFI. Im questioning the dual 2 1/2-3" dual exhaust going down one side? Might just get a 41 gallon or so rear tank under the bed behind the axle (wont need a spare 37" tire) I also have a 69 F250 with the mid tank also and they are totally different, the 72' has the filler neck on the bottom??? The 69 has the filler neck at the top (will get the 69' pic shortly to compare)

That's the auxiliary tank you pulled out of your truck? Was it located inside or outside the frame? The brackets look like factory pieces, but I've never seen a factory tank shaped like that before. Could you take and post a couple more pictures of that tank, brackets, etc. from a couple different angles? :D

Interesting... :hmm:

i was going to sat that tank looked different than any i've seen. the last bed bolt like that i tried to pull i has to cut in half with a sawzall between the bed and frame. i dont have a welder. and my grinder blew up the last time i was grinding off frame rivets.

inside the frame rails on the 72 F350 crew and the 69 F250 2wd, here are more pics.

69 F250 has a skid plate on different than 72, mounts, and looks like another crossmember on top also to hold the center skid support?? I see it also has a carrier bearing?? Are regular cab log beds all using carrier bearing?

My 69 was originally a 2wd and had a carrier bearing also.

Yes, all LWB 2WD trucks use a carrier bearing and two-piece driveshaft.

I'm sorry for questioning you on this, but are you absolutely certain that the tank in the first post is the same tank as shown in the other pictures? The tank in the first picture appears to be very rounded off, while the follow-up pictures appear to be the same boxy factory tank that I'm familiar with. If you've got that tank out on the ground, can you take a couple pictures of it from different angles, and maybe supply a few measurements?

my thoughts are this could be a crew cab f350 only tank. or a dealer item. but i doubt its a dealer item.

yea it is suspicious but all the plumbing and brackets look OEM/stock... the other thing is the actual filler outlet is lower on the bed than the 69 (different spot, different cover in the bed covering the neck) then the bottom is where the inlet hose connects (gas would be in the filler neck up to the level you fill the tank)
