That receiver hitch looks great :thup:, and those really are some massive recovery hooks, you could pull an entire congo line of chebys off the side of the road :lol:. Glad to see your making so much progress looks like ol' Basket-case #16 will be road ready before you know it, keep up the good work :pop:.

Man very cool, and looks nice too! You say low budget quick rattle can, but your doing a nice job. Can't wait to see it further along. Another thing is i like the 302 always been one of my favorites along with the fe's looks great dude keep it up!! :thup:

I moved the truck back to the back yard yesterday to get ready for the engine pull, (between downpours). Hopefully I'll be able to sell the 10 X 20 shed and shade before I leave, (I've only had them for about 7 months now). I've had no place to do this build prior to that for over 5 years now!

For those of you that have to park under trees like me... Look at the above picture and my "redneck invention" to save the cowling area! Find yourself and old magnetic sign / cut to fit / don't forget to take it off when you go mobile though! :D
You can also see the dentside hood gasket I put on it last year, (they do fit pretty good)!

It was the first time I'd used the engine hoist, but I knew it would "get er' done" after I had painted it Ford blue months ago when I found it on CL. :wink:
Got it out! Got a guy coming tomorrow morning to pick it up for $50.00. :eek:

Been pretty busy, (focus Jeff focus)... got my hands in 10 different aspects of the build every day it seems. But can't seem to stay on any one part of it for long! :doh:
Jerry, You're right man. With no disrespect for our older members here (I'll be 50 next year) they just don't have nothing better to do. I know the older guys here on Fordification are just the opposite, and I highly respect folks like these.

I picked up my rebuilt 1350 series front driveshaft on Monday, got it rattle can primered and one coat of black at present. I also got primer and black on the new 1350 rear driveshaft slip yoke and "home built" 79' brake pedal. And got a 2nd coat of Ford blue on the 302's oil pan.

So this morning I went to pressure washing the engine compartment and inside front frame rail area. Yeah, it was pretty cold when everything was said and done and soaking wet. Then I had to figure out how to get the truck back over the concrete with no help and a very bad back. And once again very thankful for my hi-jack / jeep jack / farm jack (everybody calls them something different it seems) saved my butt today.

The chemical cleaning and pressure washing did a fairly decent job on the engine compartment. So now I'm ready for wire brushing and rattle can there:

TOF, I hear ya' man. I sure hope when I reach those "golden years" I'm still able to work on the bump. :pray:

Sadly enough, I won't be able to do any body work on the truck for now, but it should be pretty mechanically dependable for the next few years.

A little progress over the past few days, (the below 60 degrees the past few days is slowing down my rattlecan progress though).
I got the tranny crossmember braces wire-brushed / rust proofed and primered. As well as finished the rattlecan work on the brake pedal / the 1350 series front driveshaft /and front driveshaft slip yoke. I also got the pass side radius arm bracket wire-brushed / rust converter and primered.

Then I changed hats and get the heater pleunum assembly and fresh air vents pulled, (and vacuumed out all the debris in the vent area). The "handle" has been broken off the driver's side vent since I've owned the truck, (I'll have to fix that). The heater core had just started to leak. The entire assembly will need a lot of my attention now so it will last another few years without "falling apart". :lol:
This work is to "winterize" the cab area for my "wimpy don't like cold weather much anymore self". :D

I'd like to get some of that stuff done on my truck some time. How tough was it ti get the heater parts apart? I imagine mine are pretty full of crap too.

Hey guys,
If you do end up getting a big boy rad to match your big boy core support, let me know where you get it and how much it cost.
If I remember the "super cooling" radiators are like dinosaurs? From one of our members here (LK2Gadd I believe) my radiator is actually from an E-series van, but it bolts right up. I'll wait to get another radiator until my 460 goes in a few years down the road hopefully.

Steve, The heater is pretty easy with no A/C. Once you get the heater hoses un-hooked / there are 3- 7/16" nuts on the engine side of the firewall / two defroster ducts / and the pass side fresh air duct to unhook. My pleunum (heater core housing) was almost past re-viving, (and it only started leaking recently/but the rust was heavy in the housing area), I'm still working on it.
My fresh air duct had a pretty large hole in it which I was gonna' "band-aid" with some tire cement and an old bicycle tube (tell me that aint' jury rigging): :lol:

But I went ahead and ordered one from DC (NPD can't get them even though they list them).
I unboxed my "new" heater core and about hit the floor! It looks like someone at autozune tossed it across the room. It's out of square and has a big "dent" on the one corner! I don't know if it will even slide into the pleunum (housing area):

And I made a quick redneck handle on the driver's side vent (I had about ran off the road before trying to open it)! Not any more... :lol:

So I change hats again and wire brush / and paint rust converter on the new rear driveshaft carrier bearing support after I've drilled the holes in it:

And I got to wire brush and paint the rust converter onto the F-350's front crossmember and the "old" tranny crossmember from the NP 435, (I'm still not sure which tranny crossmember I'll use). The 79's crossmember seems a little wimpy when set beside the bumps original. But the bumps original seems to be about 1/2"-3/4" taller, (to create the tight clearance issues so many here speak of when installing the C-6). I'll wait till I slide the engine and tranny in to decide which one. 8)

About the supercooling radiator. I don't think you need it. My 460 stays nice and cool down here south of Houston in stop and go traffic with my big fan and stock FE radiator. I have a 195 thermostat in there and the fan comes on a 200 or 205. I can cruise down the highway and it stays at 195 and in stop and go the fan will come on bring it down to 195 and shut off, then it will warm back up to 205, then the fan kicks on.....so on and so forth. It works great. This is all with a stock 1997 460 cast iron water pump.

NOTE: if you use modern serpentine belts and brackets, you have to get the modern water pump. The serpentine water pump has a different hole pattern than the older v-belt pumps. The serpentine pulley will not bolt onto the older v-belt water pump.
