CO684x4's 69 2wd low budget quick build (Updated 1-27-10)
Well I picked up a 69 that was going to be a parts truck. Plans have changed and I will now be doing a low budget quick build. It wont be nothing fancy just want to make it look a little better. Going to do the rustoleum paint job. The plan is to take the bed from my 68 and put it on the 69 and the 69 bed on the 68. The doors and front clip from the 69 will also go on the 68. The 68 clip will go on the 69. The 390 from the 68 will go in the 69. Need to pick up a trans for it. There is some rust on the floor pans in the 69 but nothing that cant be fixed. Need to fix the lowered suspension. It sits on the bump stops without a drivetrain in it. Any ideas on how I should set up the suspension? I like the lowered look. I am new to lowered 2wd's and have no clue on where to find the parts for a lowered setup. So on with the pics. Here are some pics of when I got it.

Nice truck. Looks like the front wheels are angled a bit like / \ indicating cut coil springs.

CO684X4,
That's right along my lines of affordability.
And just what's the matter with that?Going to do the rustoleum paint job.

Nothing wrong with that for this truck. Heck if it turns out great on this one just might do the 68 the same way.basketcase0302 wrote:CO684X4,And just what's the matter with that?Going to do the rustoleum paint job.

Looks like a solid base for a project, and I for one would be very interested to see how a rustoleum paint-job turns out. I mean you can't go wrong for about $50 if you have supplies that is. I look forward to checking out some updates, and good luck with it .

Well I spent some time on the truck this afternoon and got alot done. I took the bed off, took the cab and flipped it back to get ready for the new floor pans. To my surprise the cab mounts are in great shape and can be reused. Thought they would be rusted away by the looks of the floor. The bed is in awsome shape the whole reason for buying the truck. No bondo a few minor dents and only surface rust on the floor. No rust at all in the bed seam. I am going to order the new floor pans tonight. Here are the pics.

Made a trip to the junk yard today. Picked up a power steering setup out of a 72. Got the box, mounts, steering column, pumps, and hoses. Also got a complete wiring harness in great shape. Got all of it for 60 bucks.

If you want a lowered truck without the / \ look then take a look at these threads http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 22&t=34316 and here http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 22&t=37897. You may have seen these already but they are the most economical to lower our trucks without the / \ look. You get better suspension for lowering (not dinging twin I beams, they are just not the best for lowering) plus big disc brakes. Very resonably priced at a junk yard.
My truck has been on hold for 5 years because I was planning to use a Mustang II frontend (read expensive) until I read these threads that I showed above. I bought a complete Crown Vic from a Police Dept. here in NM this past Monday so that I can start building my truck finally I bought the complete car, a 2004, because I want to use the engine, tranny, front end, wiring harness, and anything else I might need from it. These cars or their parts are easy to find and very affordable. Look into using one of these frontends you might find it easier to replace your frontend instead of "fixing" yours. My
As far as your truck it looks to be a good project. Except for the passanger side primer, I like the pantina of it. I wished my truck had the original paint job that is faded some. I think that would be a really cool sleeper, a cool lowered truck with the original paint patinaed just right, kinda like brandon.k's truck. That is cool.

Also I checked the frontend on it. The king pins are toast the wheel bearings are also toast. There is about 3/4" to 1" of play in the front end. Once I get that fixed should help with the negative camber.

Re: CO684x4's 69 2wd low budget quick build (Updated 12-30-09)
Well a small change in plans. Got an email today from a junk yard in MO saying they have a complete loaded 2005 Ford Crown Vic subframe from a cop car with 70k on it. They wanted 400 shipped to my work. So I bought it. Should be here next week. Couldnt pass up the deal. Here locally just the subframe bare was 325. I'm very excited about it. Oh and tonight I also picked up a rebuilt C6 for the 390 with a new torque converter.
