'68 engine swap has begun

Post by Brokenarrow »

Well deer season is over so it's time to work on the 'ol ford. Finally yanked the 6-banger/3spd and got the FE/C6 setting in it's place. It's been 15 years since I built an engine, hope I got it right

That FE looks right at home between those frame rails :D. Your project's looking pretty good , Deer season may be over, But what are you going to tow the duck boat with? Duck season is a booming here in NC 8). Also I was JW what kind of advantages do you see out of a Quadra-Jet versus an Autolite 4bbl?

Small gas saving primaries and king-sized gas guzzling secondaries. Ford had a Motorcraft spreadbore similar in design on 429's in the 70's.

Oh I've got another truck, an '06 Chevy. I just keep the Ford around to drag it home when it breaks down. IMHO the autolite 4100 is THE most dependable carburator ever designed, and I do have a few of'em layin' around BTW. But in my experience you can get better mpg AND performance, hands down, with a well tuned Q-jet than any other carb. :2cents:

, I've heard about the gas mileage part but I figured the performance would be about the same, at least that was the talk around town when I first got my  No*a, but I sold it to get the bump :P.

A Q-jet that's capable of 850cfm will run great on an engine that only "needs" say 600cfm IF it's tuned correctly for that engine. (Try that with a Holley  ) That's the beauty of the design, they are very tunable. If I didn't have tinkeritis I'd definitely go with a 4100 though :)
