(cold and wet made it hard to hold still)
Aww c'mon man, it don't get cold in Alabama! My Father said ya'll got a good snow last week, then melted turned to ice. They closed down the roads going up the mountain there.

I like those wheels, had the same style on my old Dekalb County Maverick way back when.
You ever got to Collinsville's Trade Day? I bet they'd sell there.

Off to find some wire large enough to handle the 3g 130 amp alternator that I never installed  The ole 2g finally bit the dust yesterday morning. She was charging on startup, but by the time I left my driveway she was dead. Drove 21 miles to work with lights on and no alternator. lol
Bad thing is that I had intended to charge the batt at work before coming home. . . . "had intended to" ah well you can guess the end there. Ended up on the road most of the day yesterday and never made it back to charge my batt. Shoulda just gone and got the wrecker to haul her home, but nope. Had to drive my Darlin

Anyway, drove it to work, lights on, drove it home lights on / wipers on in BAD traffic. 21 miles one way. Made it to about 300 feet of home!!!! LOL I could see my house but couldn't drive there. Roads are slushed, it's sleeting that painful junk, the wind's crazy and my heater has the cab warm, so NO WALKING. lol

Called my Daughter and had her bring the sploder over. Popped the hoods, threw on the 20' jumper cables and sat my tail back in my truck! :) Let her charge for about 3 mins and drove her home :) For 300 feet I could actually depress the accelerator! lol

TG I had the points dist in! For the last 10 miles I could barely use the accelerator as she just didn't have the juice, and for the last 2 I couldn't even touch it, but I didn't have to walk :D

Been keeping an expense log on Darlin and this topic http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 869#p86869
got me thinking I should just post it all here as it is part of the build

$200 for Darlin (plus putting a head gasket on his Pontiac Sunbird, which was gravy)

**** Gave 3 sheets of Tin for the first Dent parts truck (say roughly $50 worth)

$10 for the second Dent parts truck

$265 for the 70 lwb

$46.84 (yes I'm cheating and using the shop's account to get a good deal) on the brake lines, new master cyl, front suspension bushings and brake fluid.

$20 King pins and bushings even from a man who had some NOS he didn't need (aka my former boss)

$5 rag joint (that's still sitting in the job box awaiting my removing the 70 column and swapping the shift collars)

$184.17 cab harness, IP, and gear set (from FORDification members) (shipping figured in)

$32 differential rebuild kit

$36.98 NOS driver's door latch (shipping figured in)

$16.18 carb kit

$200 windshield (was 189.?? and tipped the rest)

$7.49 alt belt (which I'll soon be changing to a shorter belt  )

$57.45 3G incl extras to install

$76.37 Misc. (nuts, bolts, filters etc)

That's the list thus far, for a grand total to date: $1157.48

Less parts sold from parts trucks and left overs.. -$161.00

Leaves a current expense of ........................... $996.48

Believe me you'll want to stop this if you're married! They just don't seem to understand that our upkeep on these trucks equal far less than service on a newer one! :D

Well today was fun.
Thermostat stuck closed on the way to work this morning and split a heater hose. Side of the road in the frigid rain, popped the thermostat housing, yanked the stat, cut up my oil filter box and made a temp gasket. Bypassed the heater and limped her on to work. Spent my lunch putting in a new thermostat and replacing the heater hoses. Short job, but the parts run killed all my time.

I was gonna change my oil during lunch, but that didn't happen. Ah well, tomorrow's another day.

We all know what happens when we sit money aside for our trucks, something has to come along and make us spend it elsewhere. lol At least in this case it WAS for the truck :)

Still got enough to make a small dent in my to do list though :)

Hopefully the Mercedes will sell soon and I can pump a little more money into Darlin :D

LOL, where's the Bump Store with a layaway program. lol lol lol

Please let us all know when you find it!

Pretty good "redneck ingenuity" with the gasket! I had to cut a section of my rubber camo boot once to plug the secondaries on a Hooley carb. Big Cypress hunting trip, 30 miles from the nearest phone on my swamp buggy (used to be the 76' Bronco). Got me out of the woods, actually wind up hunting another couple of days after the fix.

lol I've done some pretty crazy stuff to get going again.

Had a fuel pump die on my old 76. Sat a gas jug wedged between the windshield and open hood, grabbed some fuel line out of the back, a vac line here and there, spliced it all together and got a siphon going from the jug and hooked it straight to the carb. Closed the hood and bungeed it to the hood. :D Got me the 30 some odd miles home. lol Wonder if the police would let you get away with that these days! ROFL

lol better stop there before I give anyone ideas.

the "Dukes" wheels or the ones on the blue truck? The wheels on the 69 are stayin :D

I "might" keep the ones on the blue truck for my next job after Darlin (the 69), but Darlin's gonna take a lot of time so quite a ways off from project #2 (though the second truck won't be nearly as much work). Thing is, I need all the parts and money for parts that I can get. lol

Didn't really get anything done to Darlin today. Spent most of the day working on a customer's square body 73 ____-o-lay. Gonna be a nice truck, step side with factory fender mount spare cup (still trying to find the spare tire bracket for him if anyone's got one! or pics / measurements). Buttoned up the 454, 60 over with one seriously overkill cam, but it's a "show and go" build so the sound's what he's after more than the performance. Holley 750 spread bore on a Summit intake, oval port heads with fist killer valves and a set of Summit long truck headers. It's backed (or rather will be after work tomorrow, have to work on the button sizing) by a 2800 stall 400. Spent the morning pulling the core support and getting the engine and trans ready for the install.

Did manage to start some of the disassembly of the 70 for swap out.
