1970 highboy project 12/24
I finally have an awsome bump highboy and now begins the fun of making it better. It runs and drives with 111k original miles, has the ranger package with factory A/C (not working), and is rated @ 7700 GVRW. But the old girl has seen some neglect and use and needs some refreshing to make it a good daily driver. To start with I need to get all the lights and horn working to make it road legal. Then I plan on getting a new seat as this one has seen some better days. The motor will be getting a tune up and all new fluids throughout the drive train. Here are the before pictures, it is pretty straight, but the bed is an awful shade of green and will motivate me to paint it rather soon.

Re: 1970 highboy project
Looks good to me. I'd say a 4x4 F250 from about any year is about the best looking truck out there.

Nice score bill. I've always liked those type wheels too.

Re: 1970 highboy project
No body lift, I think the suspension all stock height but not sure as I am still learning. I like the way it sits too, but I don't like the wheels. I am going to see if the tires will go on the other wheels I have on the 67. I think those will look better.basketcase0302 wrote:Nice score bill. I've always liked those type wheels too.

Re: 1970 highboy project
Unfortunately the "Turbine" wheels on the highboy are 16.5" (most likely) and the rims on your 67 are most likely 16" (that's if you are talking about the rims on the truck in your gallery pics).
Oh yeah.... nice look'n truck man. I love those old F250 Highboys.

Re: 1970 highboy project
Got some stuff done on my 3 day break. Fixed up the interior and gave the motor a tune up. I found the seat out of a mid 90s F150, thank you cash for clunkers. Cleaned and painted the floor to stop rust and painted and put up the nice headliner. Still waiting on my new front springs and stuff to show up and got to work on some lights still. Once the front end is done and all the lights work properly it should be road worthy. More to come soon enough.
AK F100 your were right about the wheels being 16.5. I guess I will wait for these tires to wear out and replace with new wheels and tires when that time comes.

Re: 1970 highboy project
Update: got the front suspension all done today. It has new 2" leveling springs from Skyjacker, stock shackles, new polyurathane busings, and new shocks. Took me longer then I had hoped since my order got screwed up. Looks and rides better.

The High-boy is looking pretty good , and you don't seem to be wasting any time at making it look better .

Re: 1970 highboy project
Those springs makes the truck look a lot better, i would have never thought raising the front 2" would make the look that much better. you could put 36s on there from the amount of clearence it looks like you gained. would you measure the wheelwell to the ground for me, you've got me thinking about doing this to my 69 highboy.

Re: 1970 highboy project
Here is a pic of the new stance from the leveling kit. It looks a lot better to me without that rake seen above.
Hazelnut, I measured from the ground to the top of the wheel well on both sides and got exactly 40 inches.hazelnut wrote:Those springs makes the truck look a lot better, i would have never thought raising the front 2" would make the look that much better. you could put 36s on there from the amount of clearence it looks like you gained. would you measure the wheelwell to the ground for me, you've got me thinking about doing this to my 69 highboy.
