I'm posting this for "Kiwi", 67 progress (Updated 2/21/10)
The following is a quote from Kiwi's email to me, briefly explaining what the pictures are showing. Of course I had to use my online Australian to English dictionary to make sense of it all
Quote from "Kiwi":
"This is a widened Mitsubishi L300 front end, as they are a heavy van that meet the Australian Regs as far as load bearing capacity is concerned, I can't use the Falcon front end I was going to use as I couldn't get the wheel track right and the 'powers that be' are pretty hot on that in Western Aus. The steering rack is out of an Australian EA Falcon. At this stage I will be matching it to the standard F100 column. The chassis will be boxed slightly at the front, and as you can see this is just getting it all into position. Gets rid of a ****load (edit: Kiwi used an Australian unit of measurement that is guaranteed to offend the delicate sensibilities of his American cousins) of weight at the front. The rear axles and front hubs have been reset to take a standard Ford(Mustang) stud pattern, new slotted and drilled disc to go on once shes all sand blasted and painted."

More from Kiwi:
" the fuel tank is a handmade 90 litre, the bloke that makes them at Torque Fabrication in West Oz is a bloody Whiz and they come all baffled with bigger outlets,fuel-pump and fuel-filter brackets and totally certified and stamped, just the 'bees knees'. You will notice we notched the chassis to take the filler pipe, which I will probably take up though the Wooden deck and then use a nifty flush mounted Marine filler cap assembly. Now that the back springs have been reset(new top leaf) and a new front bracket fitted I reckon she's sitting down a good 3" on standard(Front and Rear) but I won't know the final lowering stats until she is all finished, then I will adjust to suit, but my aim is about 4" max(we'll see) I can get at least another 2" at the rear, as I have it set on the highest hole on the(Rear) front spring hanger. And the front suspension can be adjust to where ever I like by just changing the Coil springs. Too easy."

Re: I'm posting this for "Kiwi", progress on his 67
some very good ideas in there. wouldn't mind seeing how he widened the L300 front-end, I presume it was just a matter of adding a section to the centre of the crossmember?
Wonder how hard it would be to 'Z' or notch the frame rails to sit the rails lower over the front-end. That way you'd retain full suspension travel (not having lowered coil springs) yet have the truck sitting in the weeds..
Very cool project though, will be keeping my eye on this one

Doesn't it seem like that gas tank would be a little dangerous being that far back if you ever got rear ended? Kinda like the old pinto days. Just my

Looks cool! The tank isnt more dangerous than any other rear tank I wouldn't guess. I'd keep a good strong bumper on it and hope I never got hit, just like with any other rear tank vehicle I'd drive! td on here has a Mustang tank on his in that location. Some of the dentside era trucks had a tank like that factory. Still see several around, so I guess it works. I just went and gave my and then some again! No harm meant by my rambling on. All I meant to say was lots of people do a swap like that and it seems OK. Still yet, I'm looking forward to the progress reports in the future. I wish I knew how much the redrilling the rear axles and drums cost. I'd like to do that sometime to mine.

probably depends on the bumper. if he has a heavy bumper it won't touch the tank.drytoast wrote:Doesn't it seem like that gas tank would be a little dangerous being that far back if you ever got rear ended? Kinda like the old pinto days. Just my

"Here's the headers Dan,as you can see hand made 1"5/8 to 1"7/8 then out to 3"1/2 merge collectors. have Put together the Tub but have yet to take some pic's.
Wayne."
"Forgot to say that the Headers have been split at the head flange for easier removal and the ability to work around engine components without having to remove the whole exhaust System the right-hand(steering side) has been cut into four separate pieces and the left-hand bank into two. Will take a couple of pics and get them off to you.

What fuel cell is that? Does it come with a sending unit? I need one and I can't find one with a sending unit.

Fuel Tank/Cell is hand made by Torque fabrication in Western Australia, comes with sender unit suited to Ford gauges/Ohms requirements, surge baffles, and all engineered and stamped.. A wee bit expensive maybe, but you get what you pay for so at $1,300 Oz dollars , to me it was worth every cent. in the scheme of the whole project. This guy also hand made my headers and fitted the 4Link.. comes all legally engineered so saves a load of grief with the licencing authorities, insurances etc
