I spent most of the day in the shop getting a lot of little items cleaned up and sandblasted...and painted. I concentrated on things which needed to be mounted in the engine compartment. Actually, MOST of the day was spent on nuts and bolts. I've got cardboard boxes spread out all over the shop with holes poked in them and freshly-painted bolts sticking out. In fact, there are so many now that I had to start labeling each box, just so I'd know what the bolts sticking out of each box was for.

I also sandblasted and painted the power booster and brackets, the underdash brake pedal assembly, the horns, the windshield washer nozzles, jack hold-down bracket...and that's in addition to nearly a hundred nuts, bolts, washers, clips, etc. At least the next time I head to the shop I'll be able to get some more stuff mounted, since I'll have fresh hardware to use.

I forgot to dump the pictures that were on the digital camera's memory card before going to the shop, so I was only able to take a couple pictures before it was full. I did get a picture of the freshly-painted booster and brackets:

That little clamp in the background is the one which holds the power booster vacuum line to the firewall. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this junkyard booster is OK, since I didn't check it first. That's why I removed the mounting brackets and painted them separately. That way, if the booster IS bad and needs replaced, I won't have to repaint the brackets. Anyway, as you can probably start to see, my aim is to make almost everything under the hood black...except the engine. Black will make everything in the 'background' blend in and be unnoticeable...and by contrast the chromed and detailed engine will REALLY stand out in the engine bay. :D

Hey, that is a good idea of using the boxes to paint the bolts. I was wondering, and dreading doing that. It would have been such a hassle to paint half the bolt, then turn it over.

That is a lot of detail work Keith. You are a patient man.

Booster looks good. Looding forward to seeing everything in the engine compartment.

Keith, I wonder if you or someone else can suggest a way to keep sand from getting damp. My pressure blaster (from Harbor Freight) won't flow consistently if there's the slightest bit of moisture in the sand. Of course I'm in a high humidity area (Southeastern North Carolina) anyway. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Boy, I wish I'd have found that article when I was still teaching painting classes every month!! I had to draw it out every time :lol: . It amazed me how many people just bought a compressor, plugged in the filter at the compressor and ran a hose, then complained that their paint job had some water in it!

Thanks for the reply and the link. I have some things right (big enough compressor, multiple water separators), but I have used PVC for about 12 feet, and then 100 feet of 3/8" air hose to the sandblaster. I guess I'll be spending some time replumbing and improving.
