The pre 88 chevies have the same frame width as our trucks.
Hidden Hitch makes a welded one piece hitch that bolts to the frame.

Do you like your rear bumper are you looking for one to bolt to the frame or bumper. I combined the best of both worlds. Went and bought a 4x4 square tube and welded diamond plate sides to cover the ends. Bought a receiver and welded it to the bottom of the tube. Fabed up some mounts and mounted her to the frame. Next is make the lip that goes over the frame. All it is right now is bolted flush so if I were to have a lot of toung weight the bumper would pivoit downwards. Its a lil crooked but it does the job. I had a 1 foot drop hit but lots it driving forgot to put the locking pin in and drove away. One thing I have come to learn on this site is just do it. If you cant find it, make it. May take a lil longer and maybe a lil bit more money but the pay out is way better when you step back and say "Yup I Made That"

I've got a step bumper with holes for putting a ball in, but I didn't want to tow anything from it, even though it looks pretty solid. The bumper is mounted to the spair tire rails. Are there any hitches out there that allow me to keep the stock spare location and my bumper?

Yes,the Drawtite #75034 allows the spare to be kept in stock location and it works with both stock style bumper and a step bumper.I've had both bumpers on my truck and the spare is still in place with this hitch.

i'm about to go the stock chrome sport bumper, and either U-hual or drawtite. but i've been thinking on the spare. could i get away with iether the spare mount from a van or from a bronco? and how many years into the late 70's and 80's will they work with our bodies.
