Don't ya just love tearing something down a couple extra times for such reasons? I had Darlin's engine down a couple extra times before I realized I had used the wrong damper
I had marked the bad (spun) damper instead of just tossing it. When putting the engine back together, I grabbed the damper and noticed that it hadn't been marked........... But I knew I had marked the damper that came off! (lol in fact I did)................. Dug around and found the marked damper and put it back on. . . . . .
Gotta love it!

Make sure there is thread locker on the cam bolt or it will walk itself out. Had that happen with the maverick.

The "little 302" and the C-6 proved to be no struggle at all for my hoist (even with the boom fully extended):

Even with the front "radius arm" cross member left out, the angle started getting tight right here.
We had to slow down and go inch by inch:

It took us about 30-45 minutes from the initial lift to get to right here (motor mounts setting into the frame perches):

The "little 302" and C-6 combo with my original NP 435 cross member shifted the location of the cross member back to the rear about 2 inches. We had to drill new holes for the tranny cross member braces through the two frame rails. And I believe I have to drill the cross member hole still (it's about 1" to 1 and 1/2" off center). I had to abandon my 79's "H" pipe (I'll wind up cutting out both the "T" sections and reconnect the exhaust piping there. Just don't have the money for new exhaust right now:

It's taken me a little over 5-6 years to get to this point on my truck!
And I've still got to finish up the following:
Carb spacer / carb / fuel pump /fuel line from frame rail to fuel pump / alternator / fan blade and shroud / radiator hoses / power steering pump and mount / starter / the rear (second half) driveshaft / all engine compartment wiring.
It will take me a few more weeks to finish up the engine and get it fired:

My son Zach and I have gotten started on the truck around 8 A.M. the past two days and pretty much worked until dark (8 P.M. here).
It was a couple of long hot days (94 here the past two days) but I've been waiting on this for a long time!

Thanks Stephen, most of the parts were sandblasted by my buddy Doug / then kleanstrip rust convertor (couldn't afford POR products) / then primer / then two or three coats of Rustoleum engine enamel (autozune right down the street). Finally a little more progress yesterday, the new job's keeping me pretty busy with "homework".
My son Zach and I got the primary pipes, (from the manifolds to rear cab area) bolted on yesterday. Zach got the rust convertor on them this week and rattle can black stove painted. Thanks again to my buddy Doug for welding up the holes where the old "H" pipe were.
We also got the correct bellhousing bolts installed (the build has mostly been like this-pulling from my nuts and bolts bins because they were never there to start with) / C-6 tranny fittings installed / alternator brackets cleaned up and painted / mechanical fuel pump installed / SBF distributor cleaned up and Pertronix installed / oil in the engine and primered (had 65 PSI using the 1/2" drill) / starter, solenoid and battery cables thrown in.
And got to spin the engine over for a few minutes with the starter!
It was another good bump day yesterday, hopefully I'll have another today.
Getting real close to firing the "little 302".
