Anyone remember DX fuel?

Post by papabug71 »

Look what I found last weekend. We had a garage sale & mom brought over one of my grandmothers old old sewing machines to put in the sale. This was inside one of the drawers. I bet my grandpaw put it in there when he came home from the gas station & its been there ever since. Kinda neat. For the record, he didnt buy the bump untill October of '71, so this was for there prior truck, a 66 chebby. Check out the price of gas !!! 9.9 gallons for $3.65 !!

Yep, about 37 cents a gallon. That's about what it was when I first started driving in 73..
Been a while since I seen one of those old imprinter slips.. I don't think they hardly use
those any more. I worked at a few stations when I was a young pup.. Slapped the handles
on those a few zillion times..
With those, you had an imprinter machine, and a stack of slips, which had carbon copies.
You would put the slip in the machine, line it up, stick the card in the slot, and slap
the handle left to right.. Viola! You owe money! Now it's all puterized.. :/
Heck, these days I rarely enter a station.. I use my card to buy gas 99% of the time..
I never leave the pump..

I remember using those credit card machines. Every once in a while if I go into a real old store they will pull one out if I use my debit card. They have to call in and get approval then slap the card in for a paper copy. I used one at the old station I worked at while I was in High School. The station is a Lancaster's BBQ restaurant now sadly to say. A lot of older people on S.S. miss that store. He would carry credit all month for food gas and fuel oil for heat. They would come in at the end of the month and Ronnie would cash their checks, take out for what they owed and give them about $30 in change. Sounds bad but they really depended on him.

If you look close it was a "slurred" 5 at the end. You can see the top line of the five outside the box on the right.
