I've decided that, since I have a new coil and points eliminator, I need new plugs and wires. What's a good product? I went to the Pepzone and paid 40 bucks for some Accel 8mm wires that the counter guy said "fit" my 390. By "fit" he meant I had to cut and put the ends on them my self. I don't mind this but damned if I can get the rotor boots over the wire. I've tried wetting them, alcohol, even grease, which I know is bad but I was so pissed off at that point I just wanted to get one of the wire thru the boot. And even that didn't help.
So anyway...suggestions?
Spark plug wires.

Also...is there an aftermarket cap that feeds the wires in from the side and not the top?

Re: Spark plug wires.
I used some Accell "Universal" plug wires when I did a tune-up on my truck, it seems like it took forever to get the wires through the boot and the ends crimped, just because of how much time I spent fidgeting with the darn plug-boots trying to get them to slide over the wire
. With that said I finally got them on and am pleased with them for now but I would recommend going with the NAPA-Belden wires you can get locally at NAPA they aren't a "Universal" kind of wire and are made to fit right out of the box so you don't have to spend hours messing with cutting wires to length and getting the stubborn boots on
. Here's a link to them that Dragon had posted on another topic: http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Detail ... 36+3999999

Re: Spark plug wires.
I ran accell cut to fit on my truck for eight years never had any problems with them. Other than assembly of course, but I used dielectric grease and a pair of pliars to put the boots on. Holding the wire with the pliars about a quarter inch from the boot as I pressed the wire into the boot, once they were on and slid back enough for me to put the metal terminals on, then I just slid the boots over the terminals. Wiped any residuall dielectric grease off with a washcloth saturated with dishsoap and water, dried em off, and I was good to go after that. The accells' were a PITA, but the mallory sidewinders went to tegther alot quicker for me...or so it seemed, I was watching t.v. while I was doing those so who knows... LOL

as for the cap with wires running into it, no, I have never seen a directly wired dist. cap... I don't even think magneto ingitions used that set up, but I don't really know for sure. ![Hmmm :hmm:](./images/smilies/icon_hm.gif)

Are you referring to a "crab" cap? If you are looking for a flathead style crab cap, contact Charlie Evans via 460ford.com he makes an adapter to fit a crab cap on a later distributor.

Re: Spark plug wires.
Yes, a crab cap. Thanks.
I figured out how to get the wires thru the boot easily. Jam a pair of hemostats thru the boot, clamp on to the wire and pull-push it thru. Problem now is that the boots are 90 degrees and the metal connector is not, which means I have to bend them and, even then they don't seem to fit very well. The whole process is less kinda chicken s**t if you ask me. That's why I was looking for a "crab cap".
I think I'm just gonna find some wires that fit instead.
