Is your Bumpside a man or a woman? And why?

Post by robroy »

Good evening!

Do you think of your Bumpside as male, female, or neither? And if you care to elaborate, what's the basis of your perception?

I've noticed that some members refer to their Bumpsides as "her," as is commonly done with ships.

#50 has always seemed distinctly male to me. It's had a lot of dirt all over it for most of its life, not to mention lots of scars from a moderately hard work life. It's hard for me to see anything female about those characteristics.

Well, Ive only had my 72 F250 for a month now, but it has definately been male to me since I have had him. The name "Green Hell" seems to be sticking (from the Misfits song) and in a strange sort of way, the lyrics kinda make sense with this truck.. lol

Anyway, Green Hell is definately a male. Its funny, because for some reason my 67 Firebird has always been female. I always referred to her as she.. Dont know why, and then she ended up with the name "Jenny" for some reason.. lol. She started off as a real piece of trailer trash since that is what she was hauled home on. Now 5 years later, she is quite the beauty queen. Someday, Green Hell will be there with her. Right now, he is just a worn old worker. But its time for his mis-life crisis to kick in and he will be remade into a thoroughbred. Green Hell is going to be my daily driver though while Jenny will always be a weekend toy and show car.

Great topic robroy, never really give it much thought till you posted. i would have to say my truck has been a male all its life. Its been a farm truck all of its life, used and abused for the most part and took it like a man, i dont think my truck has ever been treated like female, when it was built it only had power assist steering, power brakes and rear step bumper, I think all highboys had to have that but no options on the truck. As a farm truck i dont think it got washed except when it rained or maybe when the white paint started to turn black because of the mud, dirt, grime and mold built up on it. the truck had a repaint once and it was washed and paint was applied with a roller and a brush useing exterior oil paint. The only time the truck has been treated nice is when i bought it. A female wouldnt go through what my truck been through without quitting and trying to leave you somewhere. If i had a penny for every 100lb bag of feed, seed and produce thats been in the bed of it would probaly have enuff money to make a nice looking truck.

I use to call my old 70 "Big Burtha" becasue she was big and I was the olny one that didn't consider it ugly  I also called it my wife because I spend all my time with it and was awlyes spending money on it. My new 69 highboy I call it the "Green Bean" it was just a name getting thrown around while painting it and it stuck  so I don't know if it boy or girl.

I guess I've never understood why people reffer to their car, truck or boat for that matter as she or he. To me it's just a truck. In the spanish language prenouns are gender spesific, masculine or femenine. It is interesting that the pronouns for a pick-up truck (camioneta) are femenine and for a car (carro) are masculine. This holds true in the area where I grew up, the name used for pick-up and cars and big trucks can vary in other parts of Mexico.

In my opinion all my trucks are female because its just not right for a man to love another man. Even though we are talking about objects.

Fords are male. Chevrolets are female. Sometimes there is confusion though. A friend has a Ford but, one night he came home early and caught it wearing a bowtie and prancing around the yard on Corvette rims. It was pretty tough trying to console him. He took the truck for counciling and learned that it had always had strange feelings...as if it were a Chevrolet trapped in a Fords body. My friend would sometimes get in the truck to find the radio station had been changed from country to techno disco and there would be pot pourri under the seat.

This happens more often than you might think, especially with older trucks who've lived in fear of being outed but, finally decide they can hide it no longer. Many undergo operations to "correct" their identity. I've often been excited upon seeing what appears to be a handsome Ford only to realize upon closer inspection that it's original masculine flathead has been replaced with a 350 covered in shiny chrome and billet baubles. Gaudy jewelry seems to be very popular among transgendered trucks.

My 68 is most deffinantly a male. I parked it next to a 70 chevy C10 at cruise nite and it lifted its right rear wheel up and squirted brake fluid on the C10.

Transgendered

Women scream, men bellow.

I guess an F100 could be a she with a high winding 302 in it but a F350 dually with a diesel and stacks? Definately male.
