AWSOME!! estate sale
Went there this morning and this guy hoarded all kind of stuff. He had 4 flathead v8s I picked up the only complete from carb to oil pan one for $200 cash. Also got a late 40s dash ($10) (posted pic maybe someone knows what it goes to), 2 random bumpers (free), a flathead intake and carb for $15, and 2 flathead bellhousings for free! He also had a bunch of lathes and old machines like that but I dont have the cash or room to get them out. He has 100s if not 1000s of points NIB. Apperently he bought out a NAPA a while back. Im still waiting for them to get that room cleaned out. They said he also had some special carb system for the flatheads but they couldnt find it and will give me a call if they do. Also had some antique singer sewing machines that ran, tons of solar panels, a pinball machine, 2 straight sixes, a 350 .030 over, and another gm motor i was unsure of. Going back tomorrow and next weekend to see what else they pull out.

Re: AWSOME!! estate sale
Those carbs look like the std ford 2bbl for the flatty.
They also made two different stromberg carbs that fit flattys. A model 48 and a 97.
The Strombergs were very popular due to the fact they are easy to set up on a multi-carb platform.
The stock Ford two-barrel has and odd ball kind of vacuum deal to run the vacuum advance in the dizzy. For a multi-carb set-up i have heard they are a PITA to get right because of it.
That block looks like it has '50-'51 8BA heads on it with a '48-'49 intake. It has the car fan, and do i spy a FENTON header on that block?
The block is also a running the later model front cover with the post style dizzy. The block could be anywhere from '48 to '52. Your water pumps are the car style, and you have the front engine mount cradle to match. Probably the higher compression car engine, not the lower comp. truck block.
Check the stroke on that beast. If its 3.75", you have the stock 239 cu in Ford crank. If its 4.00" thats the Mercury crank. Automatic bump up to 244 cu in, plus more bottom end torque.
What are your plans for that old girl?

Re: AWSOME!! estate sale
currently im getting it broken down to get magnafluxed. Got the bellhousing off this evening, ill get everything else off tomorrow so I can put it up on the engine stand. Im also spraying all the bolts down with pb blaster to help get everything off. Tried a couple of the head bolts but they were on pretty good and I dont want to break them off in the block. For now the motor will just get cleaned up and saved for a future project. Figured Id grab it while I had the chance. Im also considering grabbing the other blocks as well. I dont know if it has fenton headers that would be sweet ill try to get it cleaned up tomorrow and read it. Whats the background on the fentons?
Anyone know what a 1x1 solar panel is worth?

Re: AWSOME!! estate sale
bigredball90, thats an awsome score. That is a Fenton header in the pic you posted.
If you go back, look for anything flathead related that says Clay Smith or Evans on it. I think they were some of the firsts as far as performance goes for the flatheads.
There is another name I cant remember. A Hispanic gentleman that had a machine shop back in the day. He made all kinds of custom stuff. Heads, intakes, etc. He recently passed away & Hot Rod or similar mag. did a story on him. Very neat stuff.
