If you have the correct tools C4's and C6's are easy transmissions to rebuild.Sparx Macgyver wrote:Out of curiosity...is it fairly easy to doa tranny rebuild? Ok, Just checkin. Cause I've never worked on any transmission before. I'll look into this option first.

Re: EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!!
Another route for this is your cellular provider.BobbyFord wrote:I realize it's a little late for it now but I'd like to offer some advise...get AAA. I have the Premium option, free gas, free 200 mile tow, free vehicle unlock, travel and dining discounts, etc. Mine is about $130 (auto, motorcycle, RV) a year but you can get it for way less. One tow and it pays for itself.
I've got the same towing/gas/unlock services, but no travel/dining discounts, and it's only $3.00 per month. Unfortunately, the cellular service sucks!! (Verizon)

Re: EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!!
I don't think my cell service offers that. I don't really need the discounts, just the towing/gas/unlock services. I'll have to call my company and see what they say. I'm using Straight Talk..and off I go to tow strap the truck to my uncles. After that, gotta fix the transmission. But that's later down the line.

Re: EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!!
I got it off the freeway by pushing it...didn't have a truck available so we pushed it, and a passerby was kind enough to use her suv (I wanna say it was a Honda Passport, but I really didn't get a good look nor her name, which I wanted to thank her) to push it off the freeway and into a parking area. She was really nice, and one of only two people who stopped.
The first was a taxi cab the night it broke down, and I used his phone to call mi familia. She was the second, and she helped us move it. Somedays I feel rather alone in that I seem to be one of the few left who will stop and offer a hand to somebody on the side of the road.
Anybody available tomorrow night around 9pm? I get off my shift then, and would very much like my truck to come home with me, preferably not going in reverse down the road...just need another pickup and a tow strap..
(uncle is unwilling to help, it might damage his pretty '03 Ram 1500)...

Ranchero50 wrote:Well, if it's a C4 you can just adjust the front band screw in all the way to put it in third all the time. The C6 is probably the same way. Loosen the jam nut, run the screw all the way in tight as you can, then lock the nut down. It won't shift, it will start out in drive but it will move under it's own power.
Good luck, and put some truck info in your post if you want specific help...

Re: EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!!
If I wasn't on the opposite coast I'm sure we could help you out
. Hopefully you'll find someone with a pickup willing to help out, surely you know someone else with a truck willing to help you out, that or you could go with Jamies excellent suggestion if it's a C4 like he had stated. I got to drive a buddies Bronco out of the woods in reverse when drive went out
(we were out there hunting and trans was acting up a bit the week before got in to leave the hunting club and no forward gears what so ever
), it wasn't too bad but I imagine it woulda been worse if we had to do it on the highway
. Good luck getting the bump back home!

Re: EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!!
Thank you everybody! My uncle decided he'd rather tow strap it than me drive it in reverse. Now it's home. And now, he just did the brakes, he was worried about damaging it. Whcich didn't happen, and wouldn't have if he had listened to me. He attempted to move his truck as normal at a light (a block from my apt.'s) and the tow strap's (all 4) ripped clean apart, but not before his hitch came off with them! His tow hitch came off!
Meanwhile my truck just rolled a bit forward slowly, me laughing my butt off.
His truck is ok, just missing the tow hitch. Mines perfectly fine. No damage. Well, no new damage anyway.
But shes home, and now the fun begins tomorrow.![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
