Re: EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!!
Ah, got ya. Well, to his credit, his dodge, and the one I used to have (an '01 ram 1500 regular cab short bed) have never given either of us problems. WEll, not until he towed my ford. Lol.
Still, I'd rather have my ford or dodge versus a chevy. Chevy has never been good to me, personally.

GM/Chevy have not been nice to me. Dodge and Ford are awesome. Well, imo anyway.

Re: EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!!
I pulled my C6 completely apart, replaced the output shaft and tail housing, then reassembled the whole thing, and put it back in my truck. Took me a few hours (my first time every attempting it) and it turned out to be incredibly easy to do. I already know a transmission shop would have charged my $700 to $1500 to do the job, and all it cost me was about $20 for a couple gaskets and a tool for taking snap rings off and on.
Dude, I am like right on the border of the income poverty line, so I know what you mean about not having the cash afford big mechanic bills. You will surprise yourself at how easy rebuilding a C6 or C4 really is, and how much money you will save!! I have a book of instructions on how to disassemble and reassemble that somebody was gracious enough to give me. Probably about a dozen pages worth, with pictures. Helped me out a lot. I will scan them into the computer and send them to you if you need. Just PM me. Good luck.

Re: EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!!
So an update. I finally had a day off where I didn't have to do anything!!!! So, bought the filter and gasket, then waited for it cool a bit. Did the deed, and I don't think I fixed it. This little metal piece popped out. Kinda looks like a really miniature version of a ratchet adapter. Anyway, which way does this thing go in? With the "bib" end pointed towards the trans/truck, or towards the street?
And, after cleaning up all my tools and having put everything back together, I found a small spring. I believe it goes with the metal thingy I found. How are these pieces set up? Otherwise, Everything else went without a hitch.

Re: EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!!
sounds like something out of the valve body. part of the shifting valves. does any of the parts look like any of the parts in these pictures? http://www.fordification.com/tech/images/c6_04.jpg

No, fordman, it doesn't. There's a little tab on the trans filter, and that's what blocks this thing in, as far as I can tell. Theres a little hole right above it, but my manual shows nothing aobut it, so I dont' know. Heres a pic of the filter. That little arrow points to the tab. That covers the hole, but I don't see anyhting in that pic you showed me.

Re: EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!! EMERGENCY!!!!
Litterally, if you lay on your back, and look up at the transmission, with the pan off, then that filter in the pic I showed is orientec the right way, it would just the the back side facing you. That tab would be coving this little doohickey and spring, well, I'm assuming the spring goes with it. I don't know where else it would go,.

If it's about a 1/4 inch diameter on one end and about 3/16 on the other end, and there's a spring with it, put the large end toward the valve body and the spring below it. The filter will hold it in place.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

fordman: Yes, that's the spring, but I don't see the doomaflitchy there. Must be under the spring.
70_F100: I think that's the piece. It looks like a super tiny ratchet adapter. So, if I understand what your saying is the "nipple" end shoud be pointing towards the ground, and the spring will go in next, and the filter holds it on. Am I correct? I'm going to go get some more trans fluid. I'm out, and will need more to do todays job.
Pardon the horrendous drawing here, but this is what I mean. THe picece will go in first, followed by the spring. the larger end of the piece will go up towards the trans, and the "nipple" end will point towards the street, and the spring behind it.

Ok, cool deal then. Just wanted to make sure I had it right in my head. I confuse my self sometimes.
thanks for the help, I'll let you all know what happens later today after it cools off and the truck isn't in direct sunlight.
