My only advice to you is that if you're going to get a bike like that be sure that if it has been modified at all it was done correctly. Lots of guys will add performance exhaust but not jet them correctly, then proceed to run the snot out of them with a lean condition and cause premature wear and problems. Also they will put performance air filter assemblys in them and, once again, not jet the carbs correctly and run them lean. These engines are finely tuned and small changes in exhaust and intake flow can make major issues in how they perform if not done right. In my opinion the more original the bike is the better, that way if you want to modify it you can be sure and do it right. :2cents:

The main thing is to look for signs of a crash. Replaced parts, scuffed engine covers. Scuffs on the frame are hard to fix so check that over pretty close. Look real close at the chain. You can tell by how clean and well maintained the chain is as to how well the bike has been taken care of most of the time.

If you are new to motorcycles I would strongly recommend the MSF course before riding.

Whether this is a good trade or not depends heavily on the condition of both items. Remember mileage on a sport bike is not really comparable to car mileage, 50,000 miles is a lot on a sport bike...

I personaly would not buy a used bike unless it was absolutely pristine and had indications of meticulous matenace...

Check it over real carefull before you buy it. If you don't have a good knowledge of used bikes find someone who does and have them check it out. My son took the PO word that it was in great shape,it was'nt quickly turned into a money pit. Buyer beware. :2cents:

Another tell tale sign of it having been down are the steering stops (the tabs on the frame on either side of the lower tripple clamp). If one is broken off, it has been down HARD! I have tested that a few times in my 20's (86 ninja 600, 98 FZR600, 93 900SS). Also if the clip ons dont track straight, the forks are tweeked in the tripple.

I couldn't have said it better myself, except to say that the someone you find REALLY knows what they are talking about, and not just all talk.

A tire out of balance on a car/truck is slightly annoying. On a bike, it can kill you quick, and thats just the tip of the iceberg.

I decided not to get the bike! But i do appreciate all your input! I talked to the local cycle dealer/ service center and they gave me alot of incite. They told me that it would most likely need the top end rebuilt before to long and that it is a good bike but its nothing special and that a reasonable price for the bike is only around 1500 which is les then the car i would be tradeing for it!
Thanks
