Grill czar

Post by 67F110 »

I have been more than lucky finding grills lately. My '67 has a painted grill that is fair, but not great. It has one bad spot that could probably be fixed by a competent body guy. However, cruising the local U-Pull, several months ago, I came across a flawless '67 grill on a later year'd bump. I paid $25 for it, along with headlight bezels. Score! Took it home and put it in the bed of the truck. Over winter on a bad day, I listed the truck for sale and mentioned the grill as an extra part to go with the truck. Truck didn't sell, but a guy who lives in the SE was working here and had been looking for a grill. He called and asked if I'd sell one or the other. I agreed and met him the next day where my truck is stored. It was a damned cold and windy day. The thought of getting that old grill off was not a good one, so when he offered me $140 for the good grill, I took it. A month or so ago, regretting that I had sold what was probably the last good '67 grill on the planet, I bought another at the U-Pull. An incorrect '69 grill, aluminum, also in flawless condition. Paid another $25 and I took it home and thought about using it on my truck.... even though mine is a base model with painted bumpers and grill. In another weak moment, I listed it for sale on CL. An hour later it sold for $80. I'm now $170 up but have no grill, and seeing Carlo's '70 come back to life makes me itch to keep mine and make it a driver. So, Carlo and I blow off work this morning and call Dave, another U-Pull addict (but a Chevy and MOPAR guy) and head to another yard to look for an inner fender for Carlo's truck, along with a few other bits. Rumor had it that there was a nice '69 with a straight grill, so I thought I'd extend my run of good luck and flip another grill. Lo and behold... we get there, and the first truck in line is a fresh '67 F100. Another awesome grill, and even more amazing, an intact passenger side inner fender. I'm not going to let this one slip through my fingers... this one will be painted and installed before I change my mind! Also scored.... window cranks and door handles!

Im the same way. I scored a 69 grill the other day that only has one small dent in it. Its painted but in great condition other than that one little dent. Of course, had to buy it, but now I have to sell it and probably ship it... Im too lazy to do that right now, so it just takes up space in my garage.. lol

Im addition to parts the PO had for my truck yesterday I scored an F-600 instrument panel for $25, not sure if i will ever use it on my 69 (it will go into that 70 I am trying to get if that works out) but I GOT IT! Im not above buying an entire truck if the price is right. The only problem is that I am running out of space
1969 F100. All factory 360, 4-speed, candy apple red one owner. Incredible truck!

I know what you mean. There was an auction near here over last weekend. There were 2 bumps and an F600 in the pictures of the event. I couldn't go, and it's a good thing, because I would have bought that F600 for the instrument panel for sure.
