Bump goes full time
Well my dad has been helping me with a remodeling project for my home, Its been almost daily job for at least a few hours. He has just traded his truck for a new 2010 Dodge 1500, now he doesnt want to scratch his tiny bed (its a crew cab, 5' 5" I think) or get paint on it, well I gave him a key to the bump (she sits at home 4 days a week while I drive my stang to work) and said put her to work, He grumbled a little but agreed. Im sure its 8ft bed will come in real handy. Im not afraid to work her, I dont want a garage queen. Its ready to go, good thing it will only be travelling a short distance, hot in the cab it was 104 today and it has no AC.
1969 F100. All factory 360, 4-speed, candy apple red one owner. Incredible truck!

Mine's in pretty good shape for its age, but I plan to use it.
I've already hauled plywood. I LOVE being able to lay 4'x8' boards flat in the bed! (I also have a Ram 1500 w/ a 6.5' bed w/ a tool box. urgh)
I plan to make dump runs, haul hay and tow trailers with Fred for the next several years while doing a rolling mechanical restoration and collecting cosmetic parts. Eventually I will paint it and replace broken dented parts and bring my truck to show quality. In several years.

Just went to Home Depot tonight for supplies, for this weekend's projects.
Whether it be a 5 minute ride or 2,000 mile trip, the bump is just happy to be working.
I put a flip ball Goose neck ball in the bed to hall th 5th wheel. All I do is flip the ball, and I have full use of the bed.
Really works great!

I need to get one of those. Well... I don't need too, but one of the main points of buying this truck was the 7,500#GVWR was heavy towing. My Ram pulls a horse trailer with one old nag just fine (lots of downshifts from 4 to 3 everytime I hit a hill, though). Getting a bit off topic here, but while I'm at it: What is the limit on bed load and or trailer weight for these trucks? I understand the F250 is supposed to support 1,500# in the bed. Does that number change depending on the rear springs? My truck is a 71 Camper Special @ 7,500# GVWR. What about trailer total weight and trailer tongue weight? My mom wants to run to Idaho (approx 100 miles round trip) and pick up 3-6 tons of hay- most likely using the bed and a bumper pull (under bumper hitch, actually) 16' flatbed. My engine feels very torquey(?) on hills around here- maintaining a constant speed the whole time. I also have power brakes w/ front discs.

F-250's should be able to haul more than that. "1950 lb springs for the 6900 lb version, and 2450 lb springs for the 7500 lb version.
So I think the 7500 lb version should be able to haul about 1000 more pounds in the rear than the standard version.. I think anyway..
Mine is also a 7500 lb version, and it's pretty stiff in the rear. I haul a load of weight with my utility bed and all my tools, and it barely
makes a dent on the ride level vs empty.
I don't know what the max trailer and tongue weights would be. Part of that would depend on the quality of the hitch I would think.
With a gooseneck hitch being the most capable. I use a little box receiver welded to my bumper.. I don't think I'm supposed to exceed about
300 or so pounds tongue weight if I remember right. But the trailers I usually haul are pretty light.

I drive mine to work everyday. I got it painted last September but that don't mean I won't use it. I haul dirt, wood, the motor and tranny I just got for the 68(darn thing leaked tranny fluid all over the bed ) and anything else that will fit. My dad had a 11 ft cabover camper on it when he had it. On top of the 3/4 ton rearend he had 2500 lb overloads put on which are adjustable. It parks in the garage but is always ready to work.

I work out of mine. 160 miles round trip yesterday in 90 degree weather in DC traffic. Worked like a champ. I won't abuse it like that but maybe twice a month. I make money, then the truck gets goodies.

You mean people think you shouldn't use your bump for work?
Hell mine had 1700 lbs of welder and tools in the back for 8 months.
In that time it also pulled a 7000lb trailer on occasion.
I have put 1000+lbs of sheet rock in the back.
other things that dont come to mind
Honestly the only things I worry about are 16 spline rear axle shafts, closed knuckle front end and lack of power all of which I am working on remedying.
Hell mine had 1700 lbs of welder and tools in the back for 8 months.
