PEOPLE OFF ERING TO HELP

Post by sacramento_ford »

well , i live in a apt complex, truck is down, i think its fuel pump or exaust leak, i got no money so it sits, its parked for now. im very familiar with my truck , how can i get poeple offering to help fix it, i feel rude but i think people undermind my intelligence, yes i know its easy to work on a 390 but i need it diagnosed and done right, but last guy moved the distributor and walked away confused, guess i just like it broken down until i get it done right and no one tweeking on it, and i dotn like people thinking im a blond who just drives it,
maybe im just stubborn lol

well first off it is not an exhaust leak keeping it from running.
Second you can check if it is the fuel pump (or fuel delivery) by spending 5 minutes putting gas into the carb and cranking it.

Yeah you should make sure people under your hood messing around know what they are doing. Giving the dizzy a twist isn't always a good idea lol. Make sure you have spark fuel and compression. Well it needs air to but thats ovbious. IF whoever didn't mess up your timing then it should run if you have the basics covered. Just remember to cover all the stuff that doesn't cost money first. Could be lots of simple free things keeping it from runing.

well turning the dist is the problem. you need to retime it. get a book or look up how to reset the timing on here. turn the crank shaft so the damper lines up with zero. make sure #1 is at tdc. then turn the dist so that the rotor points to number 1. retighten the dist so tight so no one can just turn it. get on craigslist. and ask to barter the work to your truck done. to give it a tune up so it runs right. or hang out at one of the local good parts stores. and ask one of the old timers in there how to get it running or who to ask to help you get it right. maybe you can do them a favor or something. what about the guy you bought it from? would it hurt to ask if he could help you get it running right again?
