a question for you sbf owners

Post by Jarred Hodges »

I have my old f-100 and pretty much hate the 390 because it is nothing but trouble. I am thinking of swapping a mild built 302 in later. The build would probaly have flattop pistons, b303 cam, ported e7 heads, performer rpm intake, 600 holley and headers. I think it should run pretty good in the old truck. A lot of maverick and fox body guys run mid to high 8's in the 1/8 with this combo. I know it would be a lot slower since the truck is heavy. I would be happy if it could roast street tires and maybe run with some of the newer pickups. probaly mid 10's in the 1/8 and 16's in the 1/4.

If your going to put in a windsor go with the 351 you need the torque to get the truck moving. Skip the letter cams there outdated. Depending which cam you go with you might need to upgrade your valve train and watch for valve piston clearance. Idk what it cost to port but it might not be worth it unless you go with aftermarket heads. Also check out sbftech.com, post carefully they will rip you to shreds if your rude, but tons of good info over there.

I'd go E before B, with stock heads it'll need torque vs. HP. The 'B' was the reject of the family.
