Thought I would share this one. I caretake a cemetery and the other day I had been mowing for about 3 hours non-stop when I decided to take a break for a cup of joe. I stopped and turned off the mower and before I left the seat a hell of a loud explosion took place. I mean right under my butt. Yep, the damn battery blew up, man talk about changing your shorts Parts of the casing laying all over. First time I ever had a battery blow. I have a new respect for them.
Bought a new one for the tractor mower, needless to say they wouldn't take the core

, I woulda had to change my shorts too! Glad to hear you're alright though. I can't possibly understand why they wouldn't take the battery in as a core?

I have seen a big one blow on an electric golf cart. They said it was quite loud. It even caused a little carnage and of course blew the battery acid all over. People were fine though since it was all contained under the seat. It happens.

My dad and I were in the bilge of a yacht once when a D8 marine battery blew. Doused us both with acid. We scrambled out of the bilge and dove overboard.
When I was a youngster, my dad was charging a car battery. He had the maintenance/water fill caps off. I went to remove the positive cable from the charger (I think it was the positie). Anyways the lead from the charger sparked and hit the acid fumes coming off of the battery and kablooie. Plastic shrapnell and battery acid all over the place including me.
After dad finished hosing the battery acid off of me, we had a little talk about battery safety. thgen he pawned me off over to mom mumbling something incoherent about danged kids I believe.

Everything checked out fine, except for the battery that was all over the grounds. Justa freeky battery hapening.
Who knows why it happened
I was just mowing along and wanted a break when, KaBoom

Glad to hear you're okay. Battery explosions do get a mite hard on underwear. I don't know if you've ever seen a battery freeze in bitter weather but it does happen. Be careful trying to jump start totally dead batteries in the winter especially if you use a high amp charger or a Start All. A Start All is the more dangerous of the two. Put 150 or so amps to a block of frozen acid and the odds are pretty high it will explode.
This was the 1st time one blew up on me. Back in 85 I was stationed at the Glendale Az Navy recruiting station, and when I went out to start my 65 Ford Camper Special nothing happened. Well the Battery casing had done a meltdown on me. I had only had it a few days. When I bought it I thought it was neat cause it had a clear case. Took it back and got it replaced with a name brand.

Back when we used to farm, my brother was plowing a field with the Ford 5610 and stopped to take about a 10 minute break. When he got back on the tractor and turned the key, kaboom! I guess it was a little low inside and sparked when he turned the key. It blew the whole side out of the battery and dumped acid everywhere under the hood. He grabbed the waterhose and washed it all off right away so it wouldn't rust everything out. He did say it was a big boom though!
