unibody
are thos efun to repair? just the slightest accident and the whole fornt body is completly out of whack. i had the pleasure of replacing the hood both headlights and the passenger fender on a honda. i had to rig up the hood latch and the hood latch dsupport. they were too low because the passenger side had been pushed over so slightly. that it threw everythign out of whack. by the time i was done everything looked pretty good except the passenger headlight stuck out and down further than the rest of the car did. that was the best i could do with out pulling the unibody back into shape. and i have no way to do that.

Re: unibody
Hate them. Daughter rear ended a Jeep in her 96 Mustang. I could either drill out ten thousand welds or sawz all the front off about halfway up the hood. I cut it off and welded on another front and put on some new fenders. It was a major pain since I am not a body worker. She is still driving it though.
Have a 90 Jeep that hit something on the front end before I got it. It had the radiator pushed back about an inch and it took me a couple radiators and fans before I figured out all that was going on. About lost the rest of my hair on that mess. Could not see how the fan could ever reach the radiator until I checked the transmission mount which was beyond broke

Re: unibody
Kind of related to the story I told in another thread about my rebuilt Corolla.
The people that rebuilt it said that brace piece by the radiator was critical
to getting everything to line up right. I forgot exactly what you call that part,
but it's the thick metal bracing part that is right in front of the radiator, and runs
from one side to the other. They said they always replace that part with a new one
rather than trying to repair it, otherwise nothing will line up right.

Re: unibody
My brother in law bought a new unibody 1/2 ton I believe it was a 61 or 62 he never loaded it very heavy so a couple of years later I went with him to get a load of topsoil for his yard. The guy that loaded it used a frontend loader an actually put to much of a load in the bed. We couldn't get the drivers door to open. we got in thru the passenger door and then I couldn't get it closed so I held on to it as we started to leave. We hit a bump and the door came closed. when we got home we couldn't get either door to open so we crawled out the passenger window and unloaded the dirt, after the truck was empty the doors worked fine. He traded it in on a 64 that had the bed seperate.

Re: unibody
Easy way to keep track of weight in the bed tho. If doors still shut , your under weight still......george worley wrote:My brother in law bought a new unibody 1/2 ton I believe it was a 61 or 62 he never loaded it very heavy so a couple of years later I went with him to get a load of topsoil for his yard. Re: unibody
I restored an Alfa Romeo that was unibody. I'd have given anything to be able to take the body panels off and work on them. You need a bit more room to work on an unibody. It also means some pretty crazy angles. I can't wait to start the body work on the bump.

Re: unibody
Off topic but I still laugh when I think about it.
I was a kid and went with my dad in the 71 F100 I have to get a load of gravel. He had a push mower in the back and set it off to load. He had the loader start adding gravel. The truck started to sit down a little and then stopped. Dad was so proud of how much gravel his F100 could handle. Finally he figured it was enough. When he closed the tail gait he saw the push mower his son (me) had accidentally pushed under the step bumper, sitting flat on the ground with all four wheels smashed. It was holding up the back of the truck.
He had to unload about half by shovel. He was not very happy
