Saying Goodbye to an old friend - The 68 F100

Due to some recent events, I am selling my 1968 F100 project truck that I have had for over 10 years. I am transfering ownership from a non-running/driving project to hopefully a functional and driving project. Between neighbors, city codes and life changes, the 68 must go. Well in true Ford lover fashion, out with the old means in with the new (older truck ).

I have two perspective buyers for the 68, of wich both are building trucks and have needs and appreciation for the beauty of the 67-72 styling (all Fords for that matter). Both are Ford lovers, which make it a little easier handing her over too.

I will be looking at a 1960 F350, which currently has a modified Slide in Camper on the back. I plan to get rid of the camper and build a flatbed for it. I will get to take a look at it in about a week and it it looks good enough to fit the bill, I should be driving it home within two weeks.

10 Years ago, the 68 F100 that's on the side of the house was a fun project, but now with the neighbors, city codes being enforced and my 68 not being finished, ready for the road and not having current tags, I've been informed that it either has to go or moved elsewhere. Not having a place to put it out of site and not being willing to pay a storage fee at a local yard, I only have one option. I found a 1960 F350 that couls serve a few purposes. One, the neighbors will still have to look at my "old" truck. Two, it's in driveable condition. Three, no emission requirements. Four, it has a look and feel to me and that makes me think of a slower, simpler lifestyle and it will be functional as a flat-bed truck for the hopeful house project.

Good luck with the '60! It looks like it will be a great truck, and at least you will be selling the truck to someone that will appreciate it. Like JWW said don't be a stranger. Also I think you're gonna have to post some more pics of the '60 if you get it, after all we do like pics .

If I bring it home, I'll be sure to add the link to this thread. Even though it's not a bumpside, I will post some pics in the Photo Gallery section.

My Pop's went out and took a look at it for me and he even heard it run and said that it sounded pretty good. He said that I would be pleasantly suprised when I get home from work in a week and get to go an look at it in person. He even talked the owners into holding it for me until I get back home. It looks like it will ultimately come down to the test drive.

Do we have any members on here that have experiences with the 57-60 Ford trucks. I hate the thought of having to use a different Forum for all my info and wanted to see if I had an option or two for members here.

I've had a '60 or two since the early eighties.
they're pretty basic, they don't have all the fancy features like our Bumps do.

Dennis Carpenter has a lot of parts to restore them, if that's what you're after.

Will probably be doing minimal "restoration" work, But if I do get it, one of my plans eventually will be to convert it to either power drum/drum or power disc/drum brakes. From the looking I have done so far, it seems the F350's are hard to convert over to disc brakes.

It is mainly just going to be a general run around truck during the summer months and nicer days in the winter. Two wheel drive trucks are not the best choice for the winter up here.

Good luck man. If you end up getting that '60, it'll be nice to have a driver I say leave the camper on for a little while, so the neighbors have something BIG to stare at

I did not have much time to dig into the 60 F350 while I was home, but I did have a chance to at least look at it and take it for a short test drive. It started and stopped pretty good, the engine ran pretty well other than a bad stumble when it had a load on it during acceleration (probable timing or carb adjustment needed) and the water pump started leaking while I was there also. The owners would not budge from thier asking price, and I had no time to dicker with them as I had to get back to work. I was only home for a couple days before I had to get back to work. I'll be home on Oct 14th and then I should have more time to look at it, if they still have it. The only problems I found during my quick inspection were; the drivers side exhaust manifold was cracked completely through, water pump was leaking (weep hole) and the carb needed work.

My 68 F100 was sold and has gone down the road to a new home. My father and I and the new owner pushed it onto the tilt-bed trailer, secured it and it went onto the next chapter of it's life.

Looks like the deal fell through on the 60 F350. It was sold before I could get home. Sounds like I get to spend more time on the 74 F100. I hope to have it on the road soon.
