Towing a trailer

Post by Sparx Macgyver »

Ok, so the short version of the story:

Awhile back at Wal-Mart, my sister and I are in the outdoors area. You know, looking at fishing poles and all that. I was actually getting some white tee's and socks, and maybe a Mag-lite if they were on sale, but got side tracked. Anyway, she tells em she's interested in camping. Awesome. Brought this up with our mom, as she gets the final say in the 14 year old sisters stuff, and she said it was fine, but We had to use a trailer. Ok, not as big a deal, I suppose. It's only for weekend trips, and maybe one week in the summer if she's into it.

Now, the question, which can a stock F-100 302/C-4 auto take better? A pop-up tent trailer, or would a regular travel trailer be ok?

To be clear, I'm talking a 15' travel trailer, something akin to this: travel trailer

Or, would a pop-up be more in-line for this?

Edit: Another question: What about a cargo trailer? I converted a 6'x12' for my uncle and I know he'd let me use it. It only weights 2K fully loaded for 6 people. I figure for just use, it would weigh less (they pack allot of stuff they don't need for two days).

Cool. Guess I'll browse for a bit. Might find something real nice. Of course, none of this is taking place until after the truck is up again (I find more things to fix as I go...)

Keep in mind those old campers can be very heavy. It would pull a pop up no problem. IF you pull a regular camper trailer I suggest a Class type hitch and not using a bumper hitch. Trailer brakes would also be helpful as well. I would stay out of the hills with a full size also.
It will pull it but how well?

I'm leaning more towards a pop-up at this point. But it's a ways off, as I said, because I've got plenty to fix first. I don't really fancy the idea of having to set the trailer up, but, it's not that big of a deal.

Thanks. I was looking at those. I'd love to get the 15', but leaning more towards the pop-up for the various reasons you just posted. Headwinds, and braking are concerns I have for it.

AH well, just have to wait and see what comes my way when it's time..

Haha, yeah, I know. I'd love to just break out the tent from collecting dust in the rafters, but my ma is an oddball. Says we have to use a trailer. At least for now. Ah well. Maybe I can convince her a small boat would be a far more logical choice. :D
