OT - Trick or Treat'ers

Post by DuckRyder »

Note to parents and trick or treat'ers:
  1. If there are no decorations and no lights on - it is a fair bet that trick or treat'ers are not welcome.
  2. It is rude to knock more than once - it is particularly rude to BEAT on the front door to aggravate the dog.
  3. No one is required to give anyone else anything and no one is entitled to candy.
  4. Sidewalks are (oddly enough) for walking, yards are not for walking.

Does this mean you were not in the candy giving mood?? we had some trick or treaters but nothing like it used to be in years past. but all the kids on the block had fun dressing up and getting all the treats..

We had lots of candy all ready for a big night, only 3 trick or treaters came to the door. Every year we get less I guess parents don't feel safe having their kids go trick or treating. Oh well thats more candy for me. :D

See, you are hundreds (probably thousands) of miles away and picked up on it, wonder why it is so hard for the locals... :P

Pretty much known around here if there are no front porch lights on there is no knocking on the doors. Then again back when I was a juvenile delinquent the people who turned off their front porch lights were the 1st targets about 1 am. I honestly can't say I ever TP'd a decent person's house though. lol
Seems every neighborhood has the same type house that gets TP'd each year. Wife wife spent about $5 on some candy and we honestly forgot it was Halloween night until my niece brought around our 2 year old grand niece for trick or tweeting. lol
We don't have side walks and these days people usually just drive their kids around to the houses of their relatives or close friends anyway. I would be real hesitant to take a young child out to a person's house that I did not really know pretty close to go trick or treating. It is a dying custom. Probably should be anyway. About like Valentines day, what a waste! That is a holiday made just for the candy and card makers if there ever was one.
Now when I was younger about, say 30 some odd years ago Halloween was a blast. We had a fun time around here. Not so anymore. See very few people out on the streets in NC these days. If my children were 10 I am not sure what I would do about it. Probably take them to my parents and sister's houses and that would be it.

thing is though, the nastiest cases of kids gettin' poisioned or injured came from their own parents. In da words of one of the wisest men ever on this or anyother forum Watupwifdat?

I now have the benefit of living in a cop neighborhood, where in several home are owned by cops. The butt heads had a nice surprise this year. First, they messed with my sister and her friends, and from what I saw, actually looked like they were trying to kidnap one girl. My neighbor is a cop, so stepped over to let him know, and before he had a chance to even get his cell phone out, they had decided to throw rocks at 6 houses. Guess who owned 5 of the 6? Needless to say, they had a nice little ride downtown.

I'm all for pranks and games, but pulling stuff like that is not cool.
