Aussie Gum Tree Vs. F350

Post by cheek »

Hey everyone,
Yesterday as I was sitting on the couch watchin TV I heard a MASSIVE crack and then a BANG.
I'll let the pictures do the talking.

This is before:

And this is after:

When I first went down to look at it I almost cried..
We have had this truck since I was 6 (11 years) and it has only 90,000 original K's on the 351 Clevo...
Before we bought it, it was a fire pumper for The Basin CFA, here's a pic of it

So yeah it wasn't a very good birthday present for my old man. :(

One thing to consider and help put your mind at ease.

At least it wasn't a bump.... :D

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

Bummer! :o

Looks like time to replace the cab. That sure is a nice truck! Hope your dad gets it back together soon.

Bobby you just made me and my dad crack up big time :) (which we needed)
Thanks guys, means alot :)
The truck had ZERO rust in it. It had never been resprayed or smashed, was completely original minus the painted service body..
The plan is now to either undo the welds and weld in a new roof of replace the cab :S

Ouch! Sorry to see that. Are those rare like the bumps down there? Interesting to see how they fit the shoulder harness in those. Here, Ford installed a retractor for the belt in the upper cab pillar from '76 up. Also funny that a supposedly laminated windshield would disintegrate like that... Maybe the sun did something to the plastic layer.

Thanks Casey & Mike,

Yeah they are pretty rare but no where near as rare as bumps
As far as I can tell there wasn't any laminate on the windscreen :S

I just found a brand new roof :D just need to make sure its only the roof that's buggered..

I've seen bumps and dents that were rolled and the cabs didn't crush that much. That gum tree must be some really dense wood.

As for the glass shattering like that, it's Australia. Their safety and manufacturing regulations for the automotive industry were probably a lot different than the U.S. standards back then, so anything is possible.

Yeh and it was only a branch, not even a whole tree!

We aren't sure yet, if they do they will probably want to write it off. If they did we might not be able to reregister it again/ or they'd take it and auction it off.
