Does it help

Post by Mancar1 »

What is everyones opinion of sea foam and what all is it good for? I have never used it. Was thinking about it in the crankcase and gas. 390 runs ok, but has a miss until warmed up. Rebuilt my carb, and gave it a tune up. Elec. ignition, plug wires, flame thrower coil, new plugs gapped at 40. 1st owner had motor and tranny rebuilt at about 130,000, truck now has 206,000on it.
May your sails stay full, and your knots not slip. Unless a slip knot.

I'm in no way a knowledgeable person when it comes to auto-mechanics, vehicle restorations, or 37 year V8 maintenance. But a good friend of mine has been rebuilding transmissions for 30+ years and building drag car trannys for 15+ years. Took my '00 GMC by his shop a few years ago. It was shifting hard to third. He looked at it, drove it, and put it on his computer. Said a valve was sticking. He put a can of the Sea Foam in the tranny, after sucking out the same amount of original fluid. That was at 65,000. No more trouble with the tranny until it finally starting failing heavily at 175,000. So Sea Foam worked good for me.

Another good friend, and long time mechanic of over 30 years, of mine suggested using it in the gas on my vehicles every five to ten thousand miles instead of gas treatments or injector cleaners. I've been doing so with all of them. The GMC now has 199,000 and runs strong. Both Hyundai cars 110,000 and 60,000 have no issues with fuel or injectors. The old '72 Ford doesn't see but 100 miles a month at the most, but I've given it a couple cans of the "magic" Sea Foam since buying almost two years ago. Like I said no expert, but it seems to work for me, and I plan to keep using it. :D

I used sea foam on my 390 did not help much, then used transmission fluid... put directly into the cylinder it loosened up a sticky valve.
