front end upgrades
Well, I bought this long box about two weeks ago or so, and now I've got the drummies yanked out in favor of some discs and p/s.

Re: front end upgrades
Here's something weird I noticed, so I snapped a pic. The donor radius arm bushing ('79) and the red one '(67). I'm keeping the '67 radius arms 'cuz I thinks they look cooler.

You can't keep your radius arms unless you modify them. See Keith's tech article.

Re: front end upgrades
I'm not sure I follow you dc. I couldn't find the tech article you speak of. I think they will work. I need to keep the spring cup and all that jazz. I should just be able to basically swap out the beam/spindle combo and bolt it in.

Re: front end upgrades
Here is a thread about it. I didn't remember the issue exactly right. So you can use them if you keep the springs matching.

Re: front end upgrades
I had some issues figuring out what I required to replace the worn out bottom end of my steering column. So after I got the issues fiqured out...
http://fordification.com/forum/viewtopi ... =5&t=54831
I ripped the two columns apart. I snapped a few pics during the process. It was too cold in the garage so I set up shop in the foyer.
Keith's tech article describes some differences pretty well. I took the clip on the end of the wire harness apart and pulled out the turn signal on the '67 column, as well as the '76 donor column. The '76 clip was a breeze, just push with the edge of a screwdriver and the little red tab pops out the end. This allows access to the tabs to pop the wires out the back.
here's the bushing I removed from the '76 donor column, which had no bearing in the lower end, just this plastic bushing. The white one is the old one, the black one is the NOS Ford part. The donor truck had bad cancer and no cab mounts left.
subsequently the bushing being shot took out the shift tube. The dark black spots pointed out are holes the shaft wore in to the shift tube.
here's a pic of the '76 with the wheel off. Notice the light and the flasher switch.
I'm goint to try to mix and match some parts. The column mast heads look identical I'm going to use the shift collar from the '76, and the round unit the turn signal switch is screwed to(listed as column flange in LMC) to keep the original Ford harness and flasher in golve box unit. I loosely fitted it up last night and it seems it will work. One thing I will have to do is get a new shift tube if repro's are available. Or I was going to try to modify the '67 tube by measuring the difference between the two and cutting that much out of the tube and welding it back together. If I go that route I will certainly post some pics of that process. Sorry for less than HD pics.

Re: front end upgrades
The column flange from the old column (67) won't work right on the 76 column. I finally got the bugger put back together. Got the axles and spindles and calipers on. Bought new brake hoses. re plumbed the steel lines to the front. I had the lines from the donor truck master to the proportioning valve, so I had to drill a couple holes to mount the P-valve. Soon as it warms up a bit I'll get back out and get that stinking rod out of the 67 master and begin bleeding everything. I found an issue with the slip yoke in the tranny. It wobbles a bit and it seems as if the driveshaft is too short. I had the steering box in and now its back out to plumb the rear lines and to remove the old metering block. Its gonna warm up soon I hope, than I can put this thing back together.

Re: front end upgrades
So I found out the driveshaft is too short. I've got two long one piece shafts now. One is aluminum from a 88 f150 LWB. The other is a steel piece from a 76 F100 LWB. Not sure its the original shaft for that truck. I've got a c-6 to replace the FMX, but its got a bolt down yoke in it. I've worked out a deal with a tranny shop by me to trade 4 good used poles for a tailshaft and housing from a c6 out of a van. He measured it and it should be the same length as my fmx, but I only want to pay to have the shaft length altered once so I'm gonna wait to put the c6 in the truck. I also found out the Master cylinder from my parts pile is no good so I've got to purchase a new one. I also found out the springs are different lengths from a different thread so I'll have to check that out...I also found a donor seat from a 1989 or so pickup, and its RED. So I'm guessing I'm gonna eventually paint this bugger the original color...RED.
Oh yeah my 4 year old named it..."Captain Hook"!

Re: front end upgrades
I got my C6 looked at by my bud at the tranny shop. Its good we took it apart. Needed new frictions and some cleaning, and the band was shot from some moisture. Got it together and I'm waiting for my bro to come over and help me swap out the FMX. I got my new master, and am just about ready to start bleeding the system. I took my springs back out to make sure they were in the right spot. One is short and fat, the other long and skinny, so I put the fat one one the pass and the skinny on the drivers. Took a measurement and to my amazement they were the same! I'm gonna work out some issues with the brake rod and light switch later today. Soon as I get a driveshaft I just me be able to go for a ride!

Re: front end upgrades
So I went to a junkyard today and found a couple of old rusted out bumps. Got myself a throttle linkage, the missing R from my hood, a couple of those cool little Ford Truck mirrors and a pair of hubcaps that I like. http://fordification.com/forum/viewtopi ... 13&t=57328. My power steering is all complete. Pump is hooked up and the belt and hoses are on. Modified my linkage to work with my Edelbrock carb I installed today. Master is all bled and I did a beer bottle brake bleeding by myself! Finally got a brake system again! Can't wait to get my C6 installed and get a driveshaft on it. If I could only find a reasonably priced inner fender and or core support near me I'd be set.

Re: front end upgrades
Got the FMX out and the C6 in. By myself. On my back. I didn't go too bad. I'm gonna shorten by driveshaft by myself. I will post a picture tutorial of how I do it.
