Storing the truck outdoors in the winter.

Post by elemen0hpey3ae »

Guys,

As you know, the 67 shorty is looking mint and the winter here in NY is rolling in; no snow yet but soon enough. I do NOT have a garage and want to do my absolute best to ensure the paint, body, and frame are preserved as well as possible. The truck is covered next to the house right now with the tires and rims still on it; I'm pulling the tires and putting the truck on jack-stands this weekend. The tires will be kept indoors, oiled up and cleaned nicely. As far as the rest of the truck, what would you suggest since I don't have a garage. The truck will NOT be driven until the spring and will see no salt whatsoever. My biggest fear is the snow on the cover scratching the paint and the frame loosing that texas truck condition (it IS coated, but it looks like some kind of roll-on job.). I'm open to anything

Thanks in advance!

I got something like this for my boat. I don't like covers because of the moisture build up with no air flow. Not good. This works good for me but not a lot of snow here so I'm not sure how it would hold up to the weight of snow?

I feel parking the truck where the air and sunshine can get to it is best, that way it can dry out between snows. Just put some blankets or something inside to protect the interior.

Several years ago I parked my '96 Ranger on a concrete slab on the north side of my pole barn. I didn't move it for a month or two because I was about to turn it in at the end of a lease, and I didn't want to go over the mileage limit. When I finally drove it the brakes were completely rusted up from sitting in the damp shade, now I don't park anything there for long.

Set up a metal carport. Around here you can get a single wide one for $800. Give or take. Anchored down they are pretty tuff.

What part of NY ? where under snow right now and are set to get slammed this wkend. I would wrap the hubs up with (contractor grade)garbage bags other than that..bare metal rust's and your truck is completly painted---so maybe cover up the box,so snow doesn't sit in it all winter :2cents:

I would love to store mine indoors, but it won't fit through the back door.
