Re: modern radio's , cd player's
If I wanted to keep mine looking stock, I would leave the factory a.m. radio in the stock location, and put a cd/mp3 head unit in the glovebox, and just use a remote. Just a thought

Tool profile for the Y axis. Using a 1/4" ball mill I need to break up the Z depth moves to around .020" to get a smooth cut and the program I use doesn't do ball mills very well so I need to do input the info manually, a thousand lines of code or so.

Only real issues I'm having is with the trim ring on it's going to be tight keeping the overall width the same as the original. I want to have at least 1/8" of coverage over the dash but doubt I'll get much more than that. I've gotten the side walls down to about .080" thick. I'm still playing with the sizes and fit before making tool paths and cutting metal.
Of course these are some rough drawings to help figure out the sizes. Even the bevel on the outside edges is different top to sides to bottom.
Having fun with this one.

Alright with further searching I got my piture of the Metra installation kit #99-9222 for a '75-'93 Volvo. installed. Jamie, did you ever finish your version?

I have an old Super Tuner with an 8-track. Fits the larger than normal opening perfect. Someday I would like to add a CD player, the juke-box type, and have it hidden along with hidden controls. Maybe my brother can figure a way for the Super Tuner to control the CD, well, just the volume would be enough.

Hey guys,
I'm thinkin about mounting a deck underneath the dash. I'm wondering if the power wire from the AM radio fits and will power and modern car deck? I'm going to keep the original in place as it looks awesome but It'd be nice if I could just pull out the power wire and plug it into the new deck.

Most of your modern stereos will need a little more wiring than just moving the power wire. The power wire that runs to your stock radio will work for the switched power wire for a modern deck. But most modern decks also want a constant power (for radio station and clock memories). Check your cigarette lighter wiring as they came stock from the factory as a constant hot. The draw off of the radio for the constant hot is so minimal that you can just tap into the cigarette lighter power for this. The only other wires off of the modern deck that you will need to use then will be the ground and the speaker wires. Most modern decks will also have an antenna power wire, but you can disregard this wire unless you are going to be running a power antenna or an amplifier.
So a quick rundown would be this:
Constant hot - splice into your cigarette lighter power wire (check to make sure it is live with ignition off)
Switched hot - stock radio wire
Ground - firewall or dash area... Tons of places to ground on our trucks
Antenna power - Probably not used in your application
Speaker wires - Self explanatory + and - to each speaker
And then just plug your antenna into the back of your modern radio too.
That's pretty much all you need.
