Why the attitude?

you know that is one thing i have never been any good at. and that is finishing something that i have started working on. when i rarely do finish something. it is either half aced. or it doesnt work. i just dont have the patience to work on stuff to fix it most times. i always want to hurry up and get it done so i dont have to do it anymore. and if i do something that is new to me. and it works right. i feel really good about it. but i havent felt really good like that in years. i can do small stuff and its ok. but large stuff. forget it. i wimp out.

its not even close to being finished. all i have done is replace a few parts. now the hard stuff is what i have to deal with. i was so mad on saturday i ripped the hood prop off of the core support and beat a hole in the hood. now i have to replace the hood. as well as the other stuff that hasnt been finished yet. dodge sucks.

You sound normal by my guage. Heck don't let it get ya down. I have lost count of the unfinished projects I've got around our place. I get sidetracked at the drop of a hat.

Seriously, there is, and always will be, those who rub others the wrong way. It isn't usually intentional, and has been mentioned tons of times, you can't really see/feel emotions and expressions easily over the 'net. I'm sure I've come across as a bit of a know-it-all at times, and for the most part, I try to only speak of what I actually know. I've also been personally attacked, and rather than getting all PO'd and blathering about how so-n-so is an a**hole or such, I tried to point out the fact that they had no clue what they were talking about, and a few others stepped in to back me up, knowing a hell of a lot more about things that go on here than some newby on his first post. (yeah, I said newby )

I've also gotten into heated discussions regarding technical stuff a time or two, where one person swore up and down that what they read on the internet made them right.

Do I know everything? Most certainly not. But I do try to be sure of myself, and I try to think using common sense and forethought. And if I come across as cocky or such, well, don't take it personally. It's not directed at you.

I have not seen snotty replies on this forum and have read through quite a few over the past year. The information is excellent and could understand something gets lost in translation via text has no ability to convene tone despite the best efforts of our cartoon smiley faces! Some of he experts may sound dry and tired at times but understandable as the questions can sometimes already be answered since they have been asked before. Even still they take time to educate us and guide us less knowledgable. I am sure I am guilty of asking lots of stoopid questions but have never felt anything but welcome and encouraged. THanks to all.

like Paul said sometimes simply stating the dry facts about something can seem snotty. or correcting some one over using the wrong word or slang word for an item. and sometimes it may be the reader if i'm allready in a mood when i read i can read it wrong.

Good morning!

FORDification has the largest percentage of quality, good-natured posts that I've yet seen on any automotive forum. But of course where there are people there will be occasional friction.

I lived out in the woods as a kid and went to a small private school, so I grew up in a "sheltered" fashion. The main person I spent time with was my father Hugh, and he was a gentleman at all times. Never in my entire childhood did I see him express ill-will towards another person or use apathetic language, to say nothing of impolite language! He's the type of guy who could smack his thumb with a hammer and say, "Aw Gee!!!" Beyond that, I seriously doubt he made a single grammatical mistake during my entire childhood (no exaggeration)!!!

When I switched to a large public school as an adolescent I was totally shocked to discover mean kids (this phenomenon did not exist at the private school).

So I grew a thick skin later in life than most people probably do. Here are some ideas that I've found helpful:

1. We're responsible for what we're thinking and feeling at all times.
2. Developing an immunity to people that seem less-than-positive is one of our most important responsibilities. It's our responsibility to be happy.
3. If we're feeling put-off by another FORDification member's posts, we're the cause of that problem, and we're the only person who can solve it. We own the problem. The problem's in our perspective, and that's the one thing that we're capable of having complete control over.
4. In FORDification threads, whatever we put our attention on will grow. If somebody leaves what seems to be an impolite post in our thread, it's our responsibility as solid FORDification members to return the thread to an optimum quality level by responding in a polite and positive manner. It has been my experience that negative energy fizzles out very quickly when this is done, and the thread's quality is readily salvaged.
5. By focusing on the positive traits of the people responding to our threads, they'll naturally be motivated to show us those traits more often. If we make this a habit, we'll find that people who may have seemed impolite at first will gradually seem friendlier. Ultimately, you may seriously wonder how you ever got by without their fabulously generous advice!
6. There's not always a strong correlation between good manners and valuable experience.
7. A number of my friendships began "on the wrong foot," yet ultimately became valuable and enjoyable by maintaining a strong positive mental bias. This bias only needs to be maintained for a surprisingly short period of time, and then it's self-maintaining; it becomes a "positive feedback loop."

This seems to be a commonality with Forums in general. Many end up with whoever has the key to the kingdom (in this case that be Keith) just saying to heck with it - not worth the hassle.

So I don't think a serious issue with this group or at least I hope not, even though I'm not on here as much as others- I'm still "Fordified."

Robroy is the consummate cool head. I have gotten help parts and a good role model from him. This is the best website I have seen bar none. I maintain that ruffled feathers are normal and rarer here than most other places. It comes down to whether you choose to smooth your feathers back down and fly or sit on the ground looking for your chance to ruffle another's feathers. I have caught myself bordering on snotty and taught myself that much of life's maturity issues boil down to self editing or just letting the limbic system of the brain take the wheel.
