latest fiddlings w the f250

Post by cozadlance2 »

well, i got the replacement window crank knob. have yet to put it on. the headlight switch has been noted as needing cleaning(flickery dash lights. rheostat, you guys say.) I have the eclip for the shift linkage, still gotta put it on. been spraying and tapping at the axle hub bolts waiting for the rain to stop so i can swap rear wheel cylinders - by the time the rain stops, they oughtta be easier with the entire can of p.b. i have squirted on them-- i will grease bearings and axles while in there. I imagine the brake warning light will have to be pb blasted to come out, as it needs a bulb and the wheel cylinder work will set it off anyway, so i need to have the light working to reset the stupid valve. lol. yanked out the dead c.b. unit...wanna replace it, but it is a lower priority. found a bad antenna ground for the radio...will fix that when the radio gets replaced later. contemplating fixing a few rust holes and a swap for a manual transmission. took off the busted chrome trim and thinking of how to weld up the holes they left. wanting a new, smaller steering wheel...looking at some nice ones. took off the battered hubcaps... think the wheels look better without em... got the pieces to fix the split window. what adhesive should i use to put the metal bars that hold it shut onto the glass? about to go pertronix ignitor 2... That's it for now...

Got the window handle knob on. Works great. Got the bulb replaced in the brake warning light. Having some trouble getting it back together but I will figure it out. headlight switch cleaning is next and as soon as the rain stops for a day or two I will do my rear wheel cylinders. Brake booster is making soft hissing noises on braking so I will need to get that done soon too. Wanting to go 3.54 in diff with the tallest tires I can find after discussing hwy rpm concerns here with folks.

Good luck on your plans. You should read this tip for filling the trim holes if you have any welding skills.

Awesome. Thanks. The holes bug me and someday painting the truck will happen so I must fill the holes.

Simplest way I have found to follow a topic is to reply to it. Then whenever someone replies to a thread you can see it by clicking on "View Your Posts"

Both of my F250's came with a 14 inch steering wheel.
On the truck with power steering, it seemed ok.
On the other truck, with manual steering, it was a problem. I had to two-hand it just to go in a straight line. I have fixed the multiple problems and now I can one-hand it in a parking lot. I took off the mag rims with six inches of lip and went back to stock (camper special rims, looks nice too). I had the toe set. The mechanic said it was toed out which was causing it to wander on the highway. I replaced the missing bearings in the steerer tube. Uhm, I mean steering column. Steerer tube is a bicycle term. And finally, I put a stock steering wheel on. I wasn't concerned about "stock", but it was the best price I could find on a stock size. I think it's 17 inches, but I never measured it.

thanks. just got a steering wheel cover for 10 bucks. all i really needed was better grip on the wheel and i did consider the effect on steering. that and the cost of a custom steering wheel. jeez...

You got a new wrap? What kind of wrap and where? I've been looking for the type that was popular in the 60's and 70's, but haven't been able to find one.

it was a neoprene steering wheel cover from autozone. the regular ones won't fit a stock Ford wheel. Neoprene one fits very tightly but that is a good thing for me. also they had the lace up type there for $12.
I still need to do the headlight switch cleaning and E-clip for the c6 shift linkage. doing the little things while I wait for the weather to clear up for the brake work. lol

got the wheel cylinder bolts, dome light cover and temp sending unit from robroy in the mail... thanks dude... might be doing those this coming week with the rest. really was thinking pertronix but now contemplating duraspark. wary of pulling distributor.

really thinking parts truck or project truck but that will have to happen later... still in a bit of a weird housing situation, but having a solidly running truck has sure brightened my future and ability to work which is key to working it all out. Life is hectic but improving. Work is going well and the truck is coming along well. Gf and I are at least communicating decently. All is well more or less. Happy holidays. :fr:

Autozone. Thanks. I'll go check it out. I usually go to Kragen / O'Reilly.
