Wild ride!
Ice storm last night. Left work in Alpharetta, GA at 5pm. Made it the entrance to my subdivision in Jasper, GA at 9 pm. 38 miles took 4 hours. Drove my wife's '08 Kia Sorento. Thank heaven for ABS and electronic traction control. Had her in 1st gear, no gas, no brake for the last 3 miles and still slid all over the road. Had to walk the last mile and a quarter to the house. Took another hour. Had to crawl on hands and knees to cross the road and driveways. Couldn't stand up on it. My wife had it worse, she was wearing heels! Stuck at the house now. I'll be hanged if I'm walking back out again. I'm too old, fat and out of shape for this crud! My friend with a Silverado 4wd lives 3 miles past me. He made it out this morning but then again, he's crazy. Said he counted 34 vehicles in the ditch in 3 miles!

Yeah, and I was just one of many in the line up. At least 1 hour of that was spent just sitting in line waiting for people to cross a bridge one at a time. Hill going down to it, 50 yards across it, hill coming out of it. We were #30 in the line.

Wow, we keep lucking out, snow to the north, snow to the south, snow to the west. I have the eastern highlands keeping the snow from Ohio away, am too far to get lake effect snows and too far from the coat to get most Nor Easters.
It has been in the 20's though and eating a wheel barrow of wood a day to keep the house around 70. Woke up this mornign to 58' downstairs, about 50` in the bedroom and the waterbed heater just wasn't cutting it.

Re: Wild ride!
I guess you guys from up north are used to driving in this mess, huh? Down here, a lot of idiots THINK they know how to drive in it. I was creeping along at around 5mph and two trucks passed me going around 20. Go ahead, Fred! I'm not taking the chance.
Hey Ranger, my daughter lives in Canton and works east on 20 about 5 miles. Took her more than 3 hours to get from there to her apartment off Riverstone Pkwy. Sat for over an hour at 575 cause of an overturned tractor trailer. She made it home safe though so thank the Lord for that! Little fart got up and went to work this morning by 7am. I admire her work ethic but her common sense is a little lacking. Another hour and we'll be able to drive out and get my wife's car. Weird weather this year. Snowed in on Monday, iced in on Thursday, 50* by the weekend. Gonna be a tough winter. First we've had in a while. Past few years it's never even really gotten that cold. The Man in charge knows what he's doing, we need a good cold winter. Just would like a little better driveability. But hey, who am I to question.

Re: Wild ride!
No, folks are stupid up here too. Three flakes on the ground and they are in the ditches. Same for the first rain in a while, all the oil comes out of the pavement and they are on the brakes and in the ditches again.

Re: Wild ride!
i don't know how it is down there with how much ice. but you guys dont get enough each year to be able to be prepared to driv ein that stuff though. so its kind of like practice for the other drivers that were blocking you.

Re: Wild ride!
Sounds like a typical day here during the rush hour commute. Except we don't get snow here. I've spent 4 hours going 20-30 miles in good weather. Counted umpteen car crashes and break downs on the side of the road in that mess. We refer to it as "The Parking Lot". And it only gets worse if a signal goes out, or it starts to rain. God forbid both should happen at the same time. Welcome to Los Angeles. We don't build new highways, we build long narrow parking lots.
I'm glad you made it home safe and had a warm dry house to stay in.

Our oldest Daughter and her husband are getting as low as 30 degrees below that ole zero mark during the day. It will get even colder for them. BRRRRRRR. Been in some very cold as it gets weather. I feel for anyone living in it this time of year.

Thanks Caseys! Above freezing tonight, partly cloudy tomorrow, then rain and high 20's at night for the next 3 nights. Glad the weekends coming! No bump time this weekend.
