Im gonna slowly but surely start building my 390 with ported/polished heads, performer rpm intake, 750 holley carb, hedman headers, and flat top pistons. I'm gonna wait till after a huuuuge car show in september to lower it. Im gonna see how many compliments i get on it stock and then go the year after with it lowered. I have a finished wood bed kit sans the chrome pieced to go in, and a straight tail gate. I'm gonna get some '50's style flareside tail lights to go with it (the ones that say "ford" on the top of the lense), but i have no idea what im gonna do for paint.
, The built up 390 should really wake the truck up! Sounds like your truck is going to get even more awesome looking in the future.

That would make a great seat to recover, I am thinking about a wood wheel like you have. May try making one. It is a great looking truck. We pass through Portland once a year or so on our way to visit friends in Seattle. Portland had one heck of a Blizzard back during the winter of 77 - 78.

Good find. Looks like a good platform to start. How bad is the bed floor under the plywood? In my opinion stepside beds is the one thing that Chevrolet did better than Ford. Basically ford took a box and put on fenders, Chevrolet appeared to have dont a better job of style on that one.

Thanks guys. As for swapping the other trucks around, i kinda got burnt out. too much too soon. haha. The bed floor is non existant except for the plywood, but i do have a wood floor kit thats already finished, i just gotta get the chrome for the trim.
I had a chance to do a little research, and this is what i found. the original engine was a 240 I-6 paired with an auto trans. it was built in febuary of '72 in san jose with a DSO for twin cities. it IS a factory flareside, the original color was mill valley green with a pastell parchment interior. it has a 3.70 geared rear end, and has a factory curb weight of 3515 lbs, whereas a longbed has a curb weight of 3560 lbs. it is one of 7,245 of these trucks made in 1972.

Man, lookin through my parts catalog (Auto Krafters), and I came across the stepside rear fenders. $325.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luckly mine aren't THAT bad. One rust hole in the drivers side one.

Nice truck you found! I'd love to build one like that with a 460 under the hood. I have the 460 but not the stepside.
