you are totally correct! it has a separate battery on the drivers side, dual radiators too. just like you said you can access the camper between the front bucket seats. Just like you said it has shower and bathroom, its a freakin house!

thefordguy wrote:Well, I went to see the F350. Its in pretty good shape - the engine and interior is completely original. says 65k miles, I'm pretty sure original paint. the only problem I see (besides finding a place to park it!) is there a couple of places on the camper that have some rust/rotting. The front overhang top edge has a little bit, and the top vent hole has a litle around its edge. Is this a big deal? It seams like it could be fixed, but I wanted to hear what you guys think.
I've never done the repair work. The construction is plywood and tin. They didn't use real tin, it's sheet metal, but we just call it tin anyway. Most of the better repairs I've seen were done with fiberglass.

The second radiator is probably a cooler for the transmission.

Well, a walk between with means a replacement cab if you'd decide to get rid of the camper... What are they asking for it?

Most likely it was not an option, but changed by the after market company that did the frame-mount. They usually by new trucks as a rolling chassis w/cab and and change the rest then sell it. This is still a "new vehicle" sale because they never registered it. These types of shops can order the chassis in quite a few ways from the factory. Possibly they did order it with those seats.

I used to work (among other places) for a shop that did custom work to new cars. We were "in-bed" with the local dealer and had brochures printed up that looked as if this was a factory option. Our cars went back to the dealer to be displayed in the showroom and be sold. There are some people who truly believe that they have a rare factory option on their Mercedes.

It is a factory option, been talked about on the forms here a lot for getting the brackets for them, they use the Mustang seats, Here is the factory options literature page that shows them as well... http://www.fordification.com/library/ma ... ewsIndex=1 so far all the Bump side motor homes I have seen have these factory ford bucket seats in them. :2cents:

Personally I'd pay that if I had the money for it. I think that is a pretty fair price for what it is and if everything is in as good a condition as you said then I'd say go for it. Wouldn't hurt to offer him $1250 though it may save you $250 but I personally wouldn't offer less then that. I would say the final decision is up to you though, it's your money and only you can determine what it's worth to you .

That's a fair price. Offer him the $1250. RV's sit around a lot and developed problems just from sitting without being used. In my experience, it will soon need more work than it seems to now.

When was it last registered? I let the tags on my 69 go for 5 or 6 years and the DMV wanted $2,000 in back fees. Don't get caught up in that unless the truck is free or he is willing to pay them.

he just spent a few hundred on registration since it sat a few years. I suggested to him $1,300 but he said he won't go below $1,500. The only thing i'm worried about (now) is getting the camper to be water tight. I think once its properly cleaned up and the leaks repaired it should be worth at least a few thousand. I'm planning to pick it up tomorrow morning.

Reg fees: Good.

It sounds good. Try to find an RV / Camp Trailer forum. Most are all plywood / tin construction. Find out what they do that seems to be good. If it's just small cracks at the seams, silicone sealer (clear) is a miracle drug. If it's crash damage from hitting tree limbs and such, I would consider fiberglass. But, if I saw it, I might say different.

Change all the fluids. And I do mean all.

These campers were usually constructed of 2x2 wood framing glued to backside of sheets of wood wall panelling which is your inside walls. Insulation was put between the 2x2 uprights, and covered with aluminum siding. The siding was usually rolled in different patterns for all the different installers. The aluminum trim we used to use, covered the seams and installed with small screws. Sometime there is a plastic filler strip inserted into the trim to cover the screw heads. Generally leaks will occur under the corner moldings, so if you look inside for staining, you may find areas that need attention. I would try to seal these areas with a good grade of adhesive/sealer used with a standard caulking gun. That type of product stays soft and does not crack open later on. If you need exterior aluminum panels, check to see if you can find the mfr. and contact them. If all else fails, this siding is the same stuff that the eavestrough guys roll your gutters with. I use to buy it in 12" & 24" widths to roll my siding. Some of the installers may even put the edge lock on the material if needed. Pm me if you need more info. Mike K.

Well I bought it. I just couldn't pass up a truck that was so untouched. I'll take a bunch of pics to show you guys in the coming weeks. BTW, the cracks that are visible on the outside of the camper do not seem to cause water leaks - based on the current rainstorms southern california just got. So, once I get time to work on it, the first thing I'll do is caulk the seams. thanks a lot guys!
