TRON legacy

Post by flyboy71 »

Anyone see this over the weekend? I dont wanna spoil it if you did so if not read no further. I dont remember much from the original because I was too young and all scifi movies were cool back then. The new one is not too bad. There was more acton at the beginning and end and a sleeper in the middle. I actually caught myself doze off at one point. The effects are good but I didnt feel the 3D really jump out at me too much. You can definately take your kids to it and not worry about colorful language because they left all of it out (whew), unless your worried about violence which is no worse than some cartoons on network TV. Anyway thats my :2cents:

I wasn't even thinking about seeing it. The original Tron was all hyped up and ended up being a major flop. Most re-makes are usually pretty crappy IMO and why do a remake of a movie that was a major disaster in the first place. That was my thinking anyways. Granted special effects have come a long way since the early 80's when the original was released but special effects aside, I still like to have a little bit of a decent story to go along with the cool effects. :2cents:

I was in my early 20's when Tron cam out. I really enjoyed Tron as did most of my buddies. I saw Tron on TV about a year ago, it was fun, didn't have the same pazaz as it once did. We are all looking forward to the sequel. The commercial insinuated that the original Tron was stuck inside the electronic circuits and his son or grandson goes inside to rescue the old man.

The commercial pretty much sums it up except its not a nice get in get out get dad and thats it. No, instead its go in, find Dad, do the half hour sleeper segment of finding oneself, then get outta Dodge. It was about as slow and monotonous as the original Star Trek motion picture IMO.

Tron :zz: I'd rather watch "Lonesome Dove" for the 99th time. :pop:

The only Star Trek movie I didn't like was the one where Kirk meets Picard.
Even if we do fall asleep, me and "the gang" will all have something to complain, err, I mean "talk" about.

I saw Tron when it first came out. It was OK. I won't see the new one though. Most remakes are creatively stagnant PC versions of classics targeted at nostalgic boomers and their spawn.

American pop culture is fragmented, boring, predictable, brokeback dead. I've already got a black ribbon ready for the day Clint Eastwood dies.

I caught Tron on the 1st release too. Downloaded it this weekend to show the kids (in their mid - late 20's). Talk about hokey! I remember.....or do I? I can't remember if I can remember or not. What is memory anyway? At that particular time in my life I was a firm believer in "better living through chemistry". It seem really cool then for some reason. That short term memory loss is a real pain. :hmm:

I agree, it does seem hokey by todays standards. But, back then it was leading edge technology with a cutting edge glimpse into the future. Back then, Dick Tracey's wristwatch was still only available in a comic strip. Go take a closer look at your kids cell phone. We are living in what was once considered "the impossible".

Me and my pals were giggling about our first computers and how sweet they were. Mine was 10 MHz with 640 megs of RAM and a full height 10 meg hard drive. I was salivating over the newest modem, 33k baud. My current cell phone has more capability than that.

I bought a Commadore 64 from the BX on Lowry Air Force Base in 1985, got frustrated with it and sold it to a friend. I remember it had a main fuse in it that was the same vintage as the glass fuses in our trucks.

My first computer was a Timex Sinclair that you needed to connect a cassette tape recorder to to download the data. After sitting for 30 minutes waiting only to find out it didnt load. My Dad returned it to the store and got us an Atari 2600 instead which I still have. I have an original Pong game too. Later my parents bought an Apple IIc and used it for awhile until I started dinking with it and toasted it. The next upgrade was to a PC and a 386 25MHz with 250MB HD. I was ahead of my time

Great...I guess that means our future includes bowing to talking apes, a life crystal implanted in our palms so we'll know when to die, Cylons and soilent green.

On the other hand, we'll have tire armor suits and chop top bumps with quad spear guns mounted in back...so I guess that's cool.
