warranty plate disscussion

Post by fordman »

1970 F100 i have misplaced a door warranty plate. i can get a replacement from http://www.martiauto.com for 30.00. but i need to know all the info from the old plate inorder to make the plate correct. and i am missing some facts from the plate. but there may be soem clues. but i am not sure how to decifer some of the clues. i have the vin number i have the wb i remember the color of the truck boxwood green. i don't rember the model of the truck ie F100 or F101 etc. which would also have say as to the gvw of the truck on the second line of the door plate. i assume the body is a blank blank 4 which is styleside bed. i think this truck was a custom. i do not know the code for custom with a styleside bed. i have no idea what would be correct. for the first body code. i think the middle code was blank. i know the original engine a code 240 and transmission 3spd C code so that isnt a problem. how would i tell the gvw of the truck without any other info? would the number of rear springs tell me? or the rear axle tag code? the door pillar paper sticker is so dirty i cant read it. only part of the vin number. i thas some sort of goo all over the sticker that wont come off.

let me condense this i need to figure out if the model of the truck is a F100 F101 F102 and so on. i also need to figure out the gvw of the truck 5000 4500 6900 and so on. i think i might be able to get the axle code from the pumpkin tag. if the tag is still there. and that may also tell about the gvw of the truck wouldn't it? or would that tag just give the axle gvw?

The tag on the door piller should be able to be cleaned up with something like goof off. Just don't rub to hard. I use the stuff a lot with good results.

Fordman, I know you would rather figure the correct information out, if you can't get the paper tag to clean up you might try calling Marti, if they have the records on your truck you might be able to order a report to give you the information...?

well i dont know what happend to the thread over night. but it had more responces. i am not going to be able to use the paper sticker info. i was able to get the sticky stuff off. and it was the sticky part of the sticker. so the print under the goo was worn off long ago. the only numbers still on the sticker was the vin number itself. i think i am stuck unless i can get the gvw and other info now.

What happened is that several post got deleted and the involved parties got PM'ED, now back to the question.

i did call marti. for two reasons. one when i tried to list he truck the engine 240 wasnt listed. they said i could change it on the plate no big deal they would go with what i put on. and then said the way to get that info was to get the regular report. i was hoping not to have to do all of that though. but i may have to. where is that plate at?
