New PC's

Post by TNIceWolf »

My PC... my old reliable Compaq S4200NX took a dump last week and I had to replace it with a new one. Nothing extreme or to brag about but man what a difference. I was so impressed I made haste to get Miss Yvonne an identical one. Now we can fordificate at will. Why does that sound warped?

LOL @ Flyboy

We got HP Compaq Presarios, model CQ5604F. Desktop, has 3mb RAM and 500 Hard Drive. They work great. I did not really have to have a new one but I really do enjoy it! We will get a laptop next for when we go wandering.

Hope Everyone has a Wonderful Christmas!!!!

I honestly haven't seen the need for a new one yet... I'm still running a 3.4g P4 with 2g of ram and a 1T hardrive up at the house and a 3.0g P4 down at the shop, both running barebones Xp. For my mill programs and chasing the internet they work great. I think I have around $300 in both of them

Anyone with Vista should have been given a refund and I'm just getting into Windows 7 at work after the vista registry got whacked on my laptop. I may end up with something better if I ever get into video processing though or better games (but that's why I got a PS3)

I'm still running XP... I generally hang with an OS until it gets so far back it doesn't
support the hardware.
I'm running a AMD system for the first time in a good while. I had been Intel with
the last 3-4 builds. I really wanted a I7 chip, but they were too proud of those suckers.
So I went with this..
Image
It's actually a AMD Phenom II 555 dual core black box. But being a black
box chip, it was catered to overclockers and you can unlock the other two
cores, if they are actually good. Many are, including this one.
The chip is exactly the same as any other AMD quad core, it's just crippled
to sell at the lower price as a dual core. The core unlock is in the CMOS setup.
It fools CPUID into thinking it's the different quad core model.. Cuz it is
after being unlocked.. :) They also give you AMD OC software, and I can
change my clock speed while in windows and not have to reboot.

Also, it's sold as a 3.2 ghz chip, but as you can see I'm clocked up a bit more
than that. it will go faster, but I keep it down a tad to run cooler. I'm just
using the stock fan. So far, I'm still using the onboard ATI video and
the onboard sound. This was the first time I've ever used onboard video,
and it's only because the ATI HD 4200 is not too bad. But I would like to
get a better card. My FS frame rate would go up.
I paid about $115+tax for the AM3 motherboard and CPU. About $110 for
4 GB of DDR3 ram. New power supply for maybe $40.. So not too bad for under
$300 so far.
It plays HD video a whole lot better than my old 3 ghz P4, even using the
onboard video on the new one.

I have heard a lot of bad stuff about Vista. My wife has it for a while now on her HP PC. No problems, and hope she doesn't have any. I just replaced my old Dell, with a new HP PC, Windows 7. Speed wise it was like going from a 60's VW Bug to a Viper.

I seriously think devices like the iPad are gonna take hold in the next few years. Im not an Apple guy but it just seems that interface and all of the smart phones and other devices are really getting a foothold. My employer gives me a choice, new laptop or iPad and for a phone Blackberry or iPhone. Windows as we know it wont last long when we go to touch devices and cloud computing. Its so refreshing just hitting a power button and the screen is right there and apps are ready to launch, no 15 min of waiting for everything to load up.

Had Vista on the computer before this one but I upgraded to windows 7 which made it runs so much better. Windows 7 seems to be the best of XP and Vista programmed to run everything better. We are going to use my old one as a backup and storage for photos and such.

If you think a new PC is nice, you should take a new Ford truck for a ride around the block some time. :D
