Trucks Should Stop Being Mass Produced...

Post by FormerMarine1981 »

Yeah, that's what a co worker said to me today. Trucks are not needed by most people every day so they should not be sold to people. People that need them on occasion should just rent them....

Sooo, if this were said to YOU..... How would You respond?

OMG! I have more than one opinion on this subject. But their all pointed in the same direction.

"That's not what you said when you asked me to help you move cause I have a truck."

If trucks are not mass-produced they would be hand made. Most can't afford a hand-made truck. Trucks would be in the price range of Ferrari's and Rolls Royce's. As much as I would like a truck made by Ferrari, I can't afford it even if it was given to me for free.

, What was she thinking? If someone said that to me I'd just walk away. Many people NEED trucks on a daily basis, and others just prefer to have one because of having a bed, and just having the feel of driving something a bit beefier than a car. Pretty sure that if my dad didn't have a truck then he couldn't work. He's a general contractor, and without a truck there's not really a way to haul materials to the job-site. She does have a point that many people that drive trucks don't actually need them but hey, boats are mass produced and over 3/4 of the people on the waterway don't need boats yet they are still being mass produced because people buy them. I have 3 vehicles total (2 that will be Dailys) and they are all trucks :P.

It doesn't boil down to a matter of need for me. It is a matter of choice. No one else's business what somebody else wants to own/drive. But that said I do respect anyones right to their opinion, and she expressed hers.

It seems like sound advice (coming from someone that has no need for a truck).

I don't think you are too far off from the truth, This IS! Austin TX. If they stopped selling trucks to individuals I would go into a truck rental business

I went without a truck for a while and I was miserable. I couldn't haul anything when I needed to, which is often. I now have two trucks that run and my wife has a van. My 07 F-150 Supercrew is the DD and the '72 F-350 is the hauler. I have several project trucks also. There are a lot of businesses that couldn't work if they didn't have mass produced trucks. Hand built trucks would be too expensive for them also.

Maybe she was damaged as a child or had a bad childhood experience. Maybe she ate too much lead paint as a child and now suffers dain bramage. Hmmmmm

So put this in context. Did she just come in and blurt that out and leave or is there more to the discussion? Give us the skinny. From what it sounds she may just blurt random comments out like "they shouldnt make underwear unless people absolutely need to wear them" or "ya know, some people were just born to die"

i will never go without a fullsized truck again. it is true that not all people need a truck though. look at all of those suv's out there. seriously which soccer mom is goign to go 4 wheeling in there 4wd suv? also i have noticed that ford trucks are no longer made with a 8 ft bed. i think you can special order a 8 ft bed though. we were at walmart last night and saw a truck of some sort there. and it had a crossover box in it. that left about 3 feet of bed space for use as a truck. now what kind of use would you get out of a truck with a bed like that?

That is nowhere near the dumbest thing I heard when I was in Austin...

But I'd have probably mumbled something like "Idiot" and gone to Bone Daddy's for lunch...

My father made through life without a truck.....

But he always had a big block equipped station wagon (Ford) with a trailer hitch and a trailer.
I've always had at least 1 truck (usually more) for 27 of my 32 driving years.
