new project

Post by foghorn »

Well my youngest son bought a 1970 f-100 for 5 bills and it is a rust bucket we have already replaced the bed and got a replacement cab. I wish i would have kept the front clip from this truck instead of selling it some years back at the swap meet up in KC. We are now looking for replacement fenders, hood, doors, front bumper and the grille. the first thing to do is replace the floor pans and cab mounts. We are going to buy them from D.C. We also have already cut the old bed to make a roll pan for the back. This is gonna take him a couple of years to have it as a DD as we are gonna do a frame up resto. I will add pics sometime this week and take pics along the way with the project. The very first thing to do is get some heat in the shop i have a double barrel stove thats being built right now. All thats left on it is to get the pipe and plumb it in.

It might be a little metal work but i look at it like this. I would rather use parts less rusty and with no bondo in them. The only real dent on the green bed is the passenger side behind the wheel. The green cab is straight and only needs floor pans and cab mounts.

I would rather not use bondo at all either, but sometimes you have to. My rust issues are with the floor pans in the cab and the body line across the bed. I have not taking the front end off yet but I am sure I will have a surprise when I do.

My son and future son in law both work for the same company. My son works in the shop making up the duct. and what ever else they need out in the field. My future son in law works out in the field. This is a heating and air company and i got all my pipe for free that i needed for my wood stove for the shop. My son made the T for the top and used 1/4" screen to keep the birds out during the summer. This idea didnt work out so good as it got clogged up really fast. We took it down yesterday morning and cut the screen mesh off of the T and put it back together. It now works great again. We have been working on the outside of the cab getting it ready for what little bondo it will be getting and primer. The stove has been working for the last week and a half or so. So we do have heat out in the shop now. Now he just has to save up the money to get the floor pans and cab mounts. When the cab gets done then we will start looking for the front end sheet metal. After we get that gathered up we are gonna do the frame then the cab and front end all at once.

I have never seen one make of truck or car to have rust in all the same places, namely the floor panels.

I have the chevy trucks from about this yr always got rust in the areas above the rear wheels on the bed. The 61-66 chevys usually rust out along the bottoms of the front fender at the rear section. But as far as the floor pans not as many as the fords. But every different model has its own traits as far as rusting.
