PROCRASTINATORSWhat do you put off that you are ready to do?

Post by cozadlance2 »

Well it has been interesting working on the truck and reading these forums. I shall suggest the gitrdone thread- not quite like the thread about how to spend $5000 on the bump but rather what are you ready to do that you haven't or can't do an why... What do you have parts for and little or no time to do or just adjustments costing bloody knuckles and time but no money?

My list:
Rear wheel cylinders; Friggin rain. Got tools&parts ready.
Dash pad delete; been lazy.
Transmission shift linkage Eclip; the washer and baling wire work still.
Brake warning light & pressure variance valve; rain and fear of screwing it up.
Transmission service; rain & laziness.
Trailer hitch ball; can't seem to decide on flat black or what finish and I think I need to swap out 4 pin connector for 7 pin which I need pointers on.

Well I am ready to start my sport truck build as I have a complete Crown Vic for the front suspension, engine, transmission and wiring harness and computer. I have a IRS from a Mark VIII ready to go along with a Flaming River tilt steering column.

Now for why I haven't started. No place to pull apart either the CV or pull the worn out 360 I have in the truck right now. I thought my Brother-in-law was going out of town this winter for work and had planned on using his shop but durn it he stayed here and had some welding work to do so I couldn't put my truck or car in the shop to start pulling them apart. I will try some time this spring to start pulling them apart.

exhaust manifold gaskets.......... Have the gaskets, just afraid to try to break loose the bolts and afraid the exhaust will still leak, and laziness.

I'm so busy procrastinating I don't have time to do anything else.
When I'm feeling ambitious, I Fordicate.

Christmas is over and the rains have stopped. I went out to finish installing my underdash wire harness today. Took me all of five minutes to become overwhelmed and want to run away screaming. Most of it's hooked up. There are a few connectors that differ between the consecutive years. I sucked it up and tried anyway. Found a few connectors I had missed. Cleaned some other stuff. Farted around for about an hour and closed my toolbox.

Tomorrow is another day.

I don't procrastinate but I do allow myself to get distracted easily...

Intended to work on the mill all day but ended up outside splitting wood since it's above freezing finally. So now I'm down here making parts.

All of you are men/women after my own heart. If I had to "work" to get my heart started every day... I'd have been dead years ago.

It's amazing how much crap I put up with on my Bump just cause I'm too lazy to git-er-done. If you look up the word "Procrastination" in a dictionary, there'd be my ugly face staring at right back at y'all.

Even "thinking" about doing stuff on my Bump wears me out.

my problem is that a start on one thing then move to another so there is slow progress across all areas but no finished sections

Two weeks ago my '72 backfired, blew a big cloud of smoke and died. I towed it home and there it sits. Maybe I'll get to it next week but I need to finish the oak bed for my '69 so I can drive it while the '72 is under the weather. Hopefully I can get to both before the new school semester starts on the 18th of Jan. I doubt it, but I can hope!

The weather here lately is pissing me off :x . As soon as it dries out, another rainstorm is forecasted. I know, I know we're spoiled here in southern California but I swear I feel gills sprouting on my neck.
I have a lot to do to my truck; Dream beams, axle flip, driveshaft loop, carpet, firewall cover, disc swap, gotta pull the bed back off and finish welding in the bumper bracket nuts, door weatherstrip kits, bodywork, paint, etc.
I guess it could be worse.

I have and would like to install the following:

Aux Trans cooler: Got one off of an Expedition at the bone yard - Have thought about 20 ways to mount it but just have not done it.
Electric Fan: Got another bone yard pull from a Mark VII - Just need the fan controller and it is ready to go. (Almost forgot have to buy smaller bolts for water pump pulley, Anybody know the length without the fan? :help: )

Need to buy:
4160 Holley Carb the original 2V can't keep up with the rebuild.

Dual Exhaust: Poor thing sounds like it's choking - I don't like the hiss it makes when I get on it.

Guages: Volt - Trans Temp - Water Temp. Just for cool factor plus better than stock

Tach - I have no clue what it's turning. I just listen for bad things and let off!!!

All have been planned for months just like to go in garage and look at it. Then go back in the house to PLAN!! I PLAN a lot!!! :D

mmm I cant really say I'm a procrastinator because I usually just do it to get it over with. But I tend to think about stuff to do with the truck for days. Until I make a finally choice of what I want to buy or work on next.

Wow... Did somebody just smack me in the head? I used to have a buddy that was always on me about getting my projects done. He'd call damn near every day and ask me what I got done or planned on doing etc... He was a workaholic and was always working on something but he always got his stuff done. He'd make me feel guilty if I didn't get something done after work on one of my projects. Since he died my list has grown ten fold I'm sure.

My list is l o n g and boring... and typical to most guys running old trucks and playing with old tractors.

My biggest excuse lately has been 10-20 degree weather and no garage. Can work on stuff here at the shop after work hours though so that excuse is pretty lame also.

Need to rename this thread ... "Make Bob feel guilty for not getting his stuff done..."

One trick I've used in the past to get myself going is to pick a couple of really small quick and simple things to get done and sometimes that'll get me on a roll and I'll get into other things that'll take a little longer. An accomplishement or two can get the ball rolling...

Think I'll go have a couple few beers and think about this some more...
