Your thoughts on this mustang!

Post by jp2005 »

1970 mustang 250 six engine. Anyone know the MPG for this engine? Reason I'm asking is I'm thinking about buying these for long distance daily driver. Straight body and nice wheels. Its a pretty good price! Here is what I have so far for pros:

easy to work
good gas mileage straight 6 ??????????????
50 dollars or less for vehicle registration each year
not expensive to insure
Theres aways a market for mustangs if we had to sell it.

Cons ????????? not sure!

Had a Navy buddy that had a 70 with a six. He said he got around 20MPG. That was in the San Dog area, so it was a lot of city and short freeway drives. It seemed reliable for him. At least I never heard him complain about it.

I dont know what the asking price for it is but ive got a 70 MACH1 that people are always offering me more than its worth IMO. I dont know anything about 250 motors but if the car has got good metal on it without rust you could make your money back by parting it out, easy. I think the rear quarters are the same length on knotch backs as sportroofs (fastbacks) if you ever decided later to make it a fastback. I wish i was closer to it because if you didnt buy it i would if the price is write

The 200 six was a little better on gas, but the 250 should still be 20+ easy. That would make a great daily and being one of the last 6 cylinder Mustangs (Most have probably had a V8 put in them), it would be unusual as well. I would say it is worth a try. Get it.

Between insurance, car payments and vehicle tax in SC I think I save close to $450 or 500 a month switching from a 2008 Nissan Sentra SER Spec V to a 1990 Mazda Rx7 convertible. The Mazda only gets about 22 mpg and I drive a LOT of miles, but this is easily one of the best financial decisions I've made and I still have a "cool" car that I don't mind tooling around in.

I say go for it. I have a '71 F100 and '78 Chevy Nova and they are all dead nuts reliable. If you keep up with basic maintenance and replace any suspect hoses/wires/pumps/etc when you get the vehicle it should serve you well.
