I think you answered your own question right there, Craig...I don't know, that car seems like a good candidate to be a victim at the next monster truck show...It's got very little going for it...

i know i can. but i wanted to give it a try. i am pretty sure i can save it and make a few dollars. but just in case i cant. i dont want to dump a lot of cash in it. time is one thing. that could also give me practice on welding on my truck.

A 2 pack of duct tape at Harbor Frieght for $5 and you could get another 50,000 miles out of that beast.

Craig,

I don't know alot about scrap pricing and such, but let's say you haul that Escort right now to that Great Automobile Crematorium and get a buck and a half for it---you net a hundred bucks...Or, let's say you do some bondo work, bang out fenders, do some painting, replace armrests and all that, seems like you're talking cash out of pocket and a good deal of time....Then you advertise it for five bills, you wanna move the thing so you grab the first four-and-a-quarter offer you get, and after subtracting the actual cash put into it, you might end up netting two-fifty...How much work do you want to do for another hundred and fifty bucks?...Seems like you might end up making two bucks an hour for your labor...It isn't as tho you live in Cuba or some place where you can no longer get American cars...If the car only had 40,000 miles or something where you could potentially sell it for more $$$, then it may be a worthwhile project....Just my :2cents:

Scrap it!, it just seems like a lot of time and you could be doing something you love to do! And if you are still going to make money why bother with fix it. :2cents:

the subject isnt whether to scrap it or save it. the decision has already been made. parting it out isnt going to happen either. there isnt that much of a market like our trucks to part it out. the question is how much money do i spend vs time instead. do i buy the parts to fix the body. or just let the body sell as is. i know i am going to do the bumpers and probably the rear hatch.

Craig, knowing your situation (unless it's changed), do what you need to do to make a buck. :2cents:

i went ahead and picked up the fender front bumper and rear hatch today. i will probably get the rear bumper tomorrow. and i may not be able to use the rear quarter from the other car. because its a 2 door and mine is a 4 door. i took a picture of mine so i can compare them tomorrow. if it will work. my next problem will be if my sawzall batteries will hold out long enough to cut the quarter off the car.

Do the bare minimum on that heap man-brakes,window & battery -save yourself alot of wasted time and effort for very little return. I know you've already picked up the body parts, and thats great if you feel like practising for other projects, but in all honesty - who's gonna buy an 89 escort? Especially one for $500 or less? Someone who is really hurtin and just needs some wheels -they usually really aren't gonna care all that much about esthetics -within reason of course -
- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood, some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox, behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame, rear end, rear springs, and rear bumper...

the body parts are to fake them out when they see it and say who that car is in good shape. it should be worth more thna 500.00. i'll buy it. i picked up the rear bumper today. i got the car flipped up on it side so i could get to the bolts. i think in the morning i am going to just work on the car and not go junkyarding. i do have the rear quarter of the other car preped and ready to be cut off if i do it. i pulled the rear side window. so i could cut a large chunk off of the passenger side. wheel well all the way back to the rear bumper. they probably wont charge me more than 10.00 for a piece of thin metal. especially if i dont tell them what part it is. ah its a roof for my dog house.
